Job summary

City of Goldsboro seeks a laborer to support solid waste operations citywide, performing unskilled to semiskilled tasks, collecting refuse, recyclables, leaves, limbs, and bulk items. Work is labor-intensive and uses basic hand tools.

You may operate a rear loader lift, a compactor, and a leaf truck vacuum under supervision. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of maintenance-related experience, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• One year of maintenance work or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training.
• Ability to perform heavy manual work and lift 35–50 lbs regularly.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Collect and dispose of refuse, recyclables, leaves, limbs, and bulk items Citywide.
• Work on an assigned route with a crew to support refuse, recycle, or yard/bulk operations.
• Follow safety practices and use basic hand tools (shovels, rakes, pitch forks).
• Operate equipment including rear loader lift, compactor, and leaf truck vacuum.
• Deliver/collect containers and keep location records; perform routine maintenance on containers.
