Job summary

Versant is seeking a Washington-based Standards Manager to support our DC bureaus and broader news programming across cable and digital platforms. You will partner with MS NOW and CNBC teams to uphold ethical guidelines, accuracy, and transparency, guiding reporting and editorial decisions in fast-paced environments.

Reporting to the VP of Standards and Partnerships, you will work with journalists, editors, and producers to maintain integrity while adapting to evolving media landscapes,

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in journalism across broadcast, digital, or print.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. government agencies and political/business journalism.
  • Storytelling across traditional and emerging platforms.
  • Strong communication and collaboration across teams and levels.
  • Open to new approaches to content and storytelling.
  • Exceptional news and editorial judgment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide editorial guidance for news content across digital, broadcast, and streaming platforms.
  • Offer real-time guidance on breaking stories to ensure accuracy and ethics.
  • Collaborate with reporting teams to uphold Versant guidelines and high standards.
  • Review digital text, social video, podcasts, and promos.
  • Review scripts for MS NOW and CNBC and advise during air.
  • Ensure accuracy and fairness in reporting while upholding best practices.
  • Work with journalists, editors, and producers to implement sourcing and fact-checking best practices.
  • Advise on editorial decisions during breaking news and crises to minimize risk.
  • Assess reporting by outside organizations for Versant standards.
  • Collaborate with legal and rights/clearances teams as needed.
  • Help manage corrections, retractions, and responses to complaints.
  • Monitor misinformation threats impacting the organization.
  • Participate in weekend on-call duties monthly.
