Job description

Warranty & Diagnostics Technician
Position Overview

FR Conversions LLC is seeking two experienced Warranty & Diagnostic Technicians to support post‑delivery quality and field service for our fleet of converted ambulances, mini‑buses, and specialty mobility vans. This senior, hands‑on technical role is designed for individuals who can step into complex diagnostic and repair work with minimal training.

The Warranty & Diagnostic Technician serves as a technical problem‑solver and escalation resource, responsible for diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and structural issues on low‑volume, highly customized vehicles. The role requires comfort working without standard repair templates and the ability to troubleshoot systems where OEM platforms interface with custom electrical and mechanical upfits. When not actively supporting warranty vehicles, the technician performs Pre‑Delivery Inspections (PDI) on completed stock units to identify and correct issues before customer delivery, directly reducing downstream warranty events. Most work is performed on‑site in Westminster, with field service required periodically based on customer need.

Key Responsibilities
Warranty Diagnostics & Repair
  • Independently diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and structural warranty issues.
  • Troubleshoot multi‑system electrical issues involving OEM platforms, custom wiring, circuits, and harnesses.
  • Perform hands‑on mechanical repairs and adjustments.
  • Execute welding repairs and fabrication within vehicle environments.
  • Document diagnostic findings, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Field Service & On‑Call Support
  • Provide technical field support at customer locations.
  • Participate in rotational on‑call coverage and travel up to approximately 25%.
  • Communicate professionally with internal teams and customers.
  • Handle in‑person response when necessary.
Pre‑Delivery Inspection (PDI) & Quality Support
  • Perform comprehensive PDIs on completed stock vehicles.
  • Verify proper operation of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Identify and correct issues prior to shipment.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Serve as a technical escalation point.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Warranty teams.
  • Provide technical input and recommendations to support repair standards, warranty decisions, and long‑term product improvements.
This Role Is a Strong Fit for Someone Who
  • Enjoys diagnosing complex, non‑repetitive problems and identifying true root cause.
  • Is comfortable working independently and being trusted to make technical decisions.
  • Takes pride in workmanship and long‑term repair quality, not quick fixes.
  • Communicates clearly with technical and non‑technical partners.
  • Prefers hands‑on technical mastery over people‑management responsibilities.
  • Is comfortable working in environments where every vehicle is slightly different and not every problem has a documented solution.
Screenings Required
  • Pre‑Employment Physical, Hearing and Drug Test
  • Pre‑Employment Respirator Fit Test
  • A valid and current driver’s license is required; proof of renewal upon expiration.
  • A clean driving record demonstrated through an MVR check will be conducted prior to employment and annually thereafter.
Salary & Compensation

This is a full‑time, hourly position with compensation aligned to experience, certifications, and technical capability. All salary and compensation packages at FR Conversions are subject to applicable labor laws, company policies, and payroll regulations.

Job Categorization

Full‑time, hourly, FLSA non‑exempt (SOC Code–49‑3023). The position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to post‑offer and random drug/alcohol screenings.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience as an independent automotive or fleet technician, capable of diagnosing and resolving complex issues with minimal supervision.
  • Strong background in electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting, including OEM vehicle systems integrated with custom wiring, circuits, and harnesses.
  • Proven ability to identify root cause, not just symptoms, and to execute durable, high‑quality repairs.
  • Hands‑on mechanical experience performing repairs, adjustments, and modifications across multiple vehicle platforms.
  • ASE Certification (current).
  • Valid welding certification with practical experience performing weld repairs and fabrication within vehicle environments.
  • Comfortable working with hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and non‑standard vehicle configurations.
  • Ability to clearly document findings, corrective actions, and repair outcomes.
  • Willingness to support a rotational on‑call schedule and travel up to approximately 25% for field service.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience serving as a technical escalation resource or go‑to technician for complex or recurring issues.
  • Experience using OEM dealer systems such as DealerConnect for diagnostics, warranty documentation, or service workflows.
  • Background supporting warranty, field service, or post‑delivery repair operations.
  • Experience working on low‑volume, custom‑built, or upfitted vehicles such as ambulances, mobility vehicles, buses, or specialty fleets.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and build documentation.
  • Comfortable collaborating cross‑functionally with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Warranty teams to improve reliability and reduce repeat issues.
