Job description

As a Warehouse Worker, you will receive and issue materials and stock for the efficient and effective operation of the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

Warehouse Worker

Serves in the Warehouse Section of the Airport Logistic Asset Management Division at either Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

Performs warehouse activities, including receiving and issuing stock, conducting and reporting on physical inventories, bar coding property items, and processing of excess inventory. Ensures that safety procedures are performed at all times. Performs related functions.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Receives warehouse items, and non-stock Purchase Order items. Unloads delivery trucks and inspects, verifies, and compares items received against vendor packing slips and purchase orders. Unpacks and sorts items.

Enters information about items received into the automated system.

Stores warehouse items in assigned locations so that warehouse space is utilized efficiently.

Ensures location and stock number labels are in correctly affixed and readable.

Checks amounts of items in storage against inventory count documents.

Ensures proper storage and handling of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) in accordance with Federal and Virginia regulations.

Receives and bar codes property items as identified by the Property Control Officer.

Issues warehouse stock items, deliveries or process pickup of items to users, and obtains authorized signature.

Answers questions on the status of orders and backlogged items.

Plans and schedules delivery of large items or materials / parts needed for emergency repairs.

Monitors inventory levels of stock and store items to ensure stock is present when necessary.

Resolves minor over or under receipts with vendors and refers major discrepancies to purchasing agents.

Prepares shipments to vendors for return or maintenance.

Provides "Attic Storage" assistance to maintenance shops.

Maintains warehouse documentation files.

Maintains cleanliness of warehouse and satellite buildings to ensure a safe condition.

Uses tools to open, unpack, move, assemble, disassemble, and measure inventory items and shipping containers.

Provides escort for inside deliveries and assists or oversees movers.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of progressively responsible experience in the receipt, storage, or issue of materials from a centralized stockroom or warehouse.

Knowledge of warehouse procedures and ability to properly utilize limited warehouse space, determine proper methods of storage, assign locations to new items, conduct and maintain physical inventories, and process materials and equipment.

Knowledge of and ability to comply with Federal requirements and procedures for proper methods of handling and storing HAZMAT items.

Skill in operating a forklift, pallet jacks, hydraulic lifts, and other materials handling equipment to correctly and safely stack, lift, and store items.

Ability to work safely and knowledge of the safety rules, regulations, and procedures needed to do so.

Ability to analyze data and information (including diagrams and schematics).

Ability to speak and write effectively.

Skill in using a computer, computerized work order and time and attendance systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the storage and transport of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) in accordance with Federal and state policies and procedures.

Certified as a forklift operator.

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

Certified as a forklift operator within 90 days of hire, promotion, or placement into the job.

NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS

Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.

Operates vehicle airside and landside (requires AOA permit).

Work requires moderate to heavy physical exertion (lifting objects up to 50 pounds). May bend, stoop, crouch, and work in a cramped position.

May be subject to potential hazards common to the warehouse environment. Wears personal protective gear, as necessary.

Is subject to hold-over and recall on a 24-hour basis for essential services and emergencies such as snow removal.

A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.
