Job summary

Tacoma Public Utilities is seeking a Warehouse Supervisor for Tacoma Water to oversee a large, diverse warehouse operation supporting essential construction, maintenance, and repair activities.

You will ensure materials and equipment are received, stored, tracked, and distributed with strict inventory controls, while maintaining a safe, well-organized environment. You’ll supervise a small team and coordinate with internal customers and vendors to meet needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with college-level courses in material and inventory control.
• 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in procurement, storing, issuance and inventory control.
• 2 years of supervisory or lead experience.

Position Description Tacoma Public Utilities and the City of Tacoma are establishing an eligible list for Warehouse Supervisor, with an immediate vacancy in Tacoma Water. This position oversees a large and diverse warehouse operation supporting critical construction, maintenance, and repair activities. In this role, you’ll ensure materials and equipment are efficiently received, stored, tracked, and distributed while maintaining accurate inventory controls and a safe, well-organized operation.

You’ll supervise and support a team of warehouse employees, collaborate with internal customers and vendors to meet operational needs, and use your knowledge of warehouse systems and inventory management to help ensure crews have the resources they need, when they need them. Essential Duties

• Oversee, coordinate and direct the work of warehouse employees in procurement storage and disbursement of a large variety of supplies, materials and equipment used in construction, maintenance and repair operations; monitor work in progress and assure security of inventory
• Prepare requisitions for specialized equipment and materials; access requirement needs; oversee disposal of scrap materials and surplus sale
• Oversee and monitor the maintenance of the computerized inventory control system; manage required inventories to assure the timely, cost-effective and efficient receipt and distribution of materials, equipment and stock
• May prepare annual operating budget and monitor expenditures
• Monitor and authorize for payment shipments received for stock; monitor and assign loading charges and authorize for payment non-stock shipment received
• Inspect freight shipments for damage; reject damaged freight in compliance with established guidelines and regulations
• Contact or communicate with various personnel, departments, outside agencies and organizations, vendors, contractors and others to coordinate work activities and requirements and to provide and receive information and services
• Supervise and evaluate the work of two assigned personnel; interview prospective employees; recommend hiring, promotions, disciplinary action and termination as appropriate; train subordinates in appropriate work and safety procedures
• Authorize shop work, equipment repairs and maintenance in the assigned warehouse
• Prepare and review a variety of correspondence, memorandum and reports as required; prepare and maintain various files and records related to warehouse operation and personnel
• Attend a variety of meetings, seminars and programs as required
• Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

An equivalent combination to: Graduation from high school supplemented by college-level courses in material and inventory control and five years' increasingly responsible experience in procurement, storing, issuance and inventory control of a wide variety of materials, supplies and equipment including two years' experience in a supervisory or lead capacity.

• Relevant education and experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses, Certificates And Other Requirements

Valid Washington State driver's license at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter.
