The Distribution & Warehouse Center Manager ensures the efficient receiving, storage, and warehousing of raw materials, parts, and components, the timely pulling of materials, and accurate delivery to manufacturing areas. They also oversee cost-effective packaging and shipping of products to customers, adhering to company policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments. Directly supervise distribution center staff to meet safety, quality, performance, customer specifications, and delivery standards.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to improve processes, methods, productivity, and quality while reducing costs.
- Manage approximately 25 associates in the distribution and warehouse center.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Organize shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations for cost-efficiency and optimal flow of materials and products.
- Evaluate and select cost-effective freight carriers.
- Investigate and correct inventory discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions for major or recurring issues.
- Oversee controls, organization, personnel, and equipment resources across all warehousing locations, including supplier consignment areas.
- Analyze and resolve departmental problems, leading the team to meet or exceed KPIs and company goals.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, routings, and job orders for workers.
- Maintain departmental metrics to measure key success factors.
- Train new and existing employees on processes and methods to meet quality, quantity, and safety standards.
- Ensure accurate completion of all paperwork, records, and documents such as bill of lading, packing slips, and export papers.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase departmental productivity and achieve goals.
- Ensure daily shipping activities are completed on all shifts, including overtime as needed.
- Address employee issues, foster positive relations, and promote a positive warehouse culture.
- Uphold company policies and procedures in daily operations.
- Promote a culture of safety, organization, and cleanliness in the workplace.
- Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of manufacturing-based leadership experience.
- Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Technical skills such as blueprint reading, work measurement, and using precision measuring instruments. Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills required.
- Experience in Lean manufacturing is preferred.
