Job summary

United States Cold Storage, Inc. in Madison, WI is seeking a Warehouse Lead who will perform all duties of a warehouse associate and assume supervisory responsibilities in their absence.

You will lead, train, and mentor staff, ensure safety, and drive operational excellence in a fast-paced cold-storage environment. This role requires strong leadership, clear communication, and the ability to coordinate dock operations, use the WMS, and collaborate across departments to meet productivity goals

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of warehouse experience, with prior leadership experience preferred.
• Must be able to bend and lift up to 50 lbs regularly and lift up to 70 lbs occasionally with assistance.
• Able to work in a temperature range from +50°F to -30°F and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of warehousing practices, ensuring inventory accuracy and food safety compliance.

• Manage truck dock operations, coordinate trailer movements, and oversee pallet flow.

The Job Details

The Warehouse Lead performs all duties of a warehouse associate and assumes the responsibilities of the supervisor in their absence. This role requires effective leadership, communication, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.

• Serve as a visible leader within the Cold Crew, fostering strong relationships with staff and promoting our company culture


• Act as a key liaison between warehouse staff and other departments to ensure smooth and efficient operations


• Maintain high standards of warehousing practices, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and inventory accuracy.


• Enhance operational efficiency by leading, training, and mentoring Warehouse Associates, driving performance improvements.


• Support assigned associates in meeting productivity goals while addressing any violations of safety or company policies.


• Proactively troubleshoot warehouse challenges, collaborating with team members to find effective solutions.


• Manage the truck dock operations, coordinating trailer movements and overseeing the flow of pallets in and out of storage areas.


• Utilize our Warehouse Management System (WMS) to assign doors, direct tasks, and handle exceptions efficiently.


• Serve as a primary contact for escalating issues and facilitating timely resolutions.


• Assume supervisory responsibilities as needed to ensure team accountability and operational success.


• Perform Warehouse Associate duties as required by business demands.

What We Are Looking For

Education

• Preferred: high school diploma, achieved a GED, or earned the equivalent

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of warehouse experience, with prior leadership experience preferred.

Other Abilities You Will Need to Have

• Bend and lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.


• Lift up to 70 lbs. occasionally, with assistance.


• Work in a temperature range from +50°F to -30°F with moderate noise levels.


• Lift overhead when required.


• May require physical effort associated with using the computer to access information, or standing, walking, using stairs, and lifting needed to carry out everyday activities.


• Stand and walk for extended periods.


• Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.


• Attention to detail.


• Effective communication, vision, and hearing are essential for safety and productivity.


• Operate scanners, tablets, radios, phones, computers, and other essential warehouse equipment as required.


• Additional work hours may be requested by management to help manage employee production, projects, and or special events.


• Operate a registered motor vehicle as part of daily tasks.

• Possess strong arithmetic and reading skills.


• Follow verbal instructions, written instructions, and company policies.
