Job summary

Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore seeks a Warehouse Associate in Dallas to support donation intake, process merchandise, and keep the warehouse organized and safe while assisting customers. You will receive, inspect, move, sort and prepare donated items for the sales floor with teamwork and attention to safety.

Our ReStores accept and sell donated furniture, appliances, building materials and home-improvement products. Revenue generated through our stores helps Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity expand access to affordable homeownership and build stronger Dallas communities.

As a Warehouse Associate, you will receive donations, move and organize merchandise, assist customers and help keep warehouse and donation-processing areas safe and efficient. Warehouse associates may also be cross-trained to assist customers and support sales-floor operations when needed.

Position Overview

The ReStore Warehouse Associate supports donation intake, merchandise processing, warehouse organization and customer service. This position receives, inspects, moves, sorts and prepares donated merchandise for the sales floor while maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

The Warehouse Associate receives daily direction from the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager or Team Lead.

  • Greet donors and customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Receive, inspect and process donated merchandise according to ReStore guidelines.
  • Politely accept or decline donations based on established acceptance standards.
  • Load and unload furniture, appliances, building materials and other merchandise.
  • Move merchandise safely between the donation area, warehouse and sales floor.
  • Sort, clean, price, label and prepare merchandise for sale.
  • Organize warehouse, receiving and donation-processing areas.
  • Assist customers with locating, purchasing, loading and securing merchandise.
  • Use carts, hand trucks, pallet jacks and other approved equipment safely.
  • Follow proper lifting, team-lifting and material-handling procedures.
  • Identify damaged, unsafe or unsellable merchandise and notify leadership.
  • Help maintain clear aisles, exits and work areas.
  • Follow all safety, loss-prevention and donation-processing procedures.
  • Work cooperatively and communicate professionally with employees and volunteers.
  • Assist with customer-facing sales-floor responsibilities when assigned.
  • Represent Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity positively and professionally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Available to work weekdays and weekends as needed is required
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Warehouse, retail, donation-center, moving, delivery, construction or customer-service experience preferred.
  • Ability to provide courteous assistance to donors and customers.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to identify and report safety concerns.
  • Ability to organize merchandise and maintain an orderly work environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees and volunteers.
  • Ability to safely use material-handling equipment after completing required training.
  • Commitment to the mission of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity.
  • Ability to work a flexible retail schedule, including weekends, based on business needs.
  • Willingness to be cross-trained and assist with warehouse, donation-processing and sales-floor responsibilities.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, push and pull throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds independently and assist with heavier items using team-lifting techniques or appropriate equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Schedule and Benefits

This is a full-time, hourly, nonexempt position generally expected to be scheduled approximately 35–38 hours per week, depending on operational and business needs. A particular shift, weekly schedule or specific number of hours is not guaranteed.
