Job summary

Austin Habitat for Humanity is seeking a store associate to support daily operations, assist donors, and help maintain a safe, welcoming ReStore environment. You will sort, price, and stock merchandise while providing exceptional donor service and following safety procedures.

The role requires flexible scheduling including weekends/holidays, with lifting up to 80 pounds and experience in a fast-paced setting. Forklift certification is optional but recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors and provide receipts; deliver excellent donor service.
  • Sort and process donations; price items and move to the sales floor.
  • Operate warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with loading/unloading donations and maintaining a clean, organized store.
  • Support opening/closing operations; work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Maintain donation records and track inventory and recycling efforts.

Job description

This position is responsible for partnering with production and the retail team in a high energy fast-paced environment to perform a variety of operational functions that include: receiving, sorting, processing, pricing, and meeting daily goals. The position demands excellent donor service at all times. Greets donor, receives donations, and supplies donors with receipt. Expedites merchandise to make sure it is on the sales floor within company standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage Day-to-Day Activities Within the Store.

  • Provides exceptional customer service to all our donors/customers.
  • Operates warehouse equipment effectively (forklift, pallet jacks floor dollies etc...)
  • Creates a welcoming atmosphere by greeting donors and safely unloading donations from vehicles.
  • Able to multi-task
  • Work a flexible schedule in support of the store opening, production, and closing operations including working on weekends and holidays.
  • Sort donated items and determine a value.
  • Comply with all safety and security procedures.
  • Maintain a professional appearance (uniform).
  • Comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to work schedule
  • Assist in loading/unloading trucks.
  • Communicate the Habitat mission and vision effectively to our customers.
  • Sort and process merchandise according to procedures
  • Accurately record donations.
  • Identify recyclable items and sort them accordingly
  • Identify high-value items for online or featured finds.
  • Price all sellable items and move to the sales floor in a timely manner
  • Keep the work area clean and safe at all times.
  • Cross-train as necessary in other functions of the store operations, and assist as needed in other areas of the ReStore.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

Maintain Records

  • Oversee donation tracking
  • Fulfill Housekeeping list
  • Monitor recycle bins
  • Other record keeping, as required
Qualifications

This individual must understand and appreciate the mission of AHFH. Qualified candidates must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, and the ability to multi-task. This individual must be detail-oriented and able to work independently. Must be able to deal with all kinds of individuals and remain consistent in keeping a professional demeanor.

Must be available to work a flexible schedule.

Education: High School / GED or at least four years’ experience in lieu of a diploma.

Fork Lift Certification is not required but recommended.

Required to lift up to 80 pounds on a regular basis and will experience frequent bending, squatting, lifting, and repetitive motion. This position will occasionally be exposed to extremes in weather (e.g., heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.).
