Position: Warehouse Assistant
Supervised by: Food Bank Coordinator and Program Director
Department: Food & Nutrition
Classification: Part Time – 20 hrs/week
Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Warehouse – Pendleton
Salary: $19.87/hr.
Benefits: FSA, Life Insurance, 401K Plan, Sick Leave
Schedule: This position requires onsite warehouse work on Tuesdays and Thursdays (8 hours each day) and Wednesdays (4 hours), for a total of 20 hours per week.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is part of a team that offers food service to community members experiencing food insecurity. The Warehouse Assistant is responsible for the pickup and delivery of food through direct interactions with the public and partner organizations. In addition, this position helps with the food distributions to the area pantries by building pallets, preparing for deliveries, assisting with deliveries when needed, and assisting with distribution of commodity boxes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Pick-up food at grocery stores and/or farmers’ markets along designated route
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with store/market managers and vendors
  • Unload food, weigh and record food items by category, and position food in appropriate locations.
  • Distribute food at assigned sites.
  • Ensure participants are treated with respect.
  • Ensure participants sign participant sign-in sheet when picking up food.
  • Help participants load the food into their cars or other transportation.
  • Collect and distribute foods at other sites.
  • Pick-up and unload donated food as required.
  • Build pallets for distribution to local food pantries including dry goods, frozen goods, and produce/cooler items.
  • Monitor temperature and maintain pest logs.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of vehicles, warehouse, and workspace.
  • Maintain equipment, including vehicles and report any equipment issues.
  • Fuel vehicles as needed at CAPECO approved location
  • Collect and report required information on fueling and maintenance of vehicles
  • Follow all applicable driving regulations as required by the State of Oregon
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

  • A High School Diploma, GED or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Must operate cargo van, forklift and various pallet jacks
  • Past experience picking up and delivering product is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as part of regular job duties
  • Basic math skills and legible handwriting.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work individually and as part of a team.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to bend, kneel, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must occasionally lift, push and/or carry/move objects up to 50 pounds .

While driving, operators are exposed to noise and vibration levels which may be higher than those typically experienced in passenger cars. The employee will lift, and/or carry/move objects up to 50 pounds or more on a daily basis. The employee may be subject to long trips, tight delivery schedules, delays in route, and stresses and fatigue related to driving a commercial vehicle on highways in various weather conditions.

The employee in this position may spend a moderate time outdoors and be subject to temperature, weather, and outside environment extremes. Will be required to enter and exit coolers and freezers with temperatures ranging from -10 degrees Fahrenheit to 42 degrees Fahrenheit.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however, a conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from this position.
  • CAPECO is a drug free workplace and pre-employment screening will be required.
  • Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record is required.
  • Required to maintain a Department of Transportation medical certificate (CDL not required).
  • Travel required within the Gilliam, Umatilla, and Morrow County service area.
