Job summary

Hampton University is seeking an Auxiliary Warehouse Assistant to support daily warehouse and logistics operations across campus facilities and residence halls. This role assists with furniture delivery, relocation, installation, maintenance, and repair, while managing inventory, fulfilling work orders, receiving and distributing materials, and maintaining orderly operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing, coordinating, and completing work orders related to furniture delivery, pickup, relocation, installation, and repair.
  • Receive, inspect, verify, and process incoming inventory, furniture, equipment, and materials with accurate documentation.
  • Pick, pack, stage, and transport materials for delivery, storage, or distribution.
  • Load, unload, move, and deliver furniture, equipment, and supplies to campus departments and residence halls.
  • Support inventory control by tracking, storing, and organizing materials and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe warehouse environment in compliance with standards.
  • Operate warehouse equipment and vehicles following safety procedures.
  • Assemble, install, and relocate furniture and equipment as assigned.
  • Perform basic furniture repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with room setups, event preparations, and configurations.
  • Report damaged items or safety concerns promptly.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to ensure timely service.
  • Support residence hall openings, closings, and transitions.
  • Inspect residence halls for operational readiness.
  • Maintain professional communication with supervisors and team members.
  • Contribute to a positive customer service culture.

Job description

The Auxiliary Warehouse Assistant reports directly to the WarehouseSupervisor and plays a key role in supporting daily warehouse andlogistics operations for Auxiliary Services. This position assistswith furniture delivery, relocation, assembly, installation,maintenance, and repair across campus facilities and residencehalls. The Auxiliary Warehouse Assistant is also responsible forinventory management, fulfillment of work orders, receiving anddistributing materials, and supporting warehouse organization andefficiency. The position requires routine travel to variouson-campus and off-campus locations and a commitment to providingexceptional service to students, faculty, staff, and campusguests.

Examples of Duties
Warehouse Operations & Logistics
  • Assist the Warehouse Supervisor in preparing, coordinating, andcompleting work orders related to furniture delivery, pickup,relocation, installation, and repair.
  • Receive, inspect, verify, and process incoming inventory,furniture, equipment, and warehouse materials, ensuring accuracyand proper documentation.
  • Pick, pack, stage, and transport materials for delivery,storage, or distribution.
  • Load, unload, move, and deliver furniture, equipment, andsupplies to campus departments, residence halls, and otherdesignated locations.
  • Support inventory control procedures by accurately tracking,storing, and organizing materials and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe warehouse environment incompliance with departmental and university standards.
  • Operate warehouse equipment and vehicles safely and responsiblywhile following established procedures and safety protocols.
Furniture Assembly, Installation & Maintenance
  • Assemble, install, and relocate furniture and equipment asassigned.
  • Perform basic furniture repairs, adjustments, and preventativemaintenance.
  • Assist with room setups, event preparations, and furniturereconfigurations as needed.
  • Report damaged furniture, equipment, or safety concerns to theWarehouse Supervisor promptly.
Customer Service & Campus Support
  • Collaborate with Auxiliary Services and other campusdepartments to ensure efficient and timely service
  • Support residence hall openings, closings, room transitions,and special campus projects.
  • Conduct routine inspections and walkthroughs of residence hallsto support operational readiness for the Fall and Springsemesters.
  • Maintain professional communication with supervisors, teammembers, and campus stakeholders to ensure effective coordinationof work activities.
  • Contribute to a positive customer service culture by providingresponsive and courteous support to the campus community.
Operational Support
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and withinestablished deadlines.
  • Assist in maintaining overall warehouse productivity,efficiency, and service quality.
  • Participate in departmental training and safety programs asrequired.

Perform other duties as assigned to support Auxiliary Servicesoperations.

  • Experience with inventory management and materialhandling.
  • Basic knowledge of furniture assembly, repair, or maintenancetechniques.
  • Experience working in a higher education or customer serviceenvironment preferred.
  • Forklift or material handling equipment experience is aplus.
