Position: Warehouse and Facilities Manager

Reports to: Director of Operations and Client Services

Organization: Food for Others is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization helping Northern Virginia residents meet their basic need for food.We provide free, emergency food from our pantry, neighborhood, and mobile sites directly to clients; we supply other community organizations from our warehouse; and we supply thousands of weekend food packs for school children weekly during the school year.Food for Others is a mission-focused organization where the applicant can expect to become involved in all aspects of the food bank/food pantry operation.

Summary statement of position: The Warehouse and Facilities Manager leads and oversees the day-to-day activities of our food warehouses, fleet, and facility maintenance. This role is central to ensuring the safe, efficient movement of food to our programs and community partners, while fostering a strong, team-centered work culture. The Senior Manager supervises drivers and warehouse associates and works closely with program, volunteer, and administrative staff to ensure smooth operations across all fronts.

Key responsibilities

Warehouse, Inventory, and Food Distribution

• Manage food rescue schedules, coordinating drivers and trucks with donor stores.
• Oversee receipt, storage, sorting, and staging of food donations and purchases.
• Ensure food is distributed on time to internal programs and external partners.
• Submit daily and periodic reports (e.g., to Capital Area Food Bank).
• Monitor food safety compliance, inventory accuracy, product loss prevention.
• Ensure accurate allocation of inventory across applicable programs.
• Coordinate operational support for special events.
• Maintain readiness for audits and inspections by VADACS, USDA, and other regulatory bodies.
• Supervise drivers and warehouse associates, including scheduling, time tracking, and performance evaluations.
• Train new staff and ensure ongoing development through regular coaching.
• Foster a strong, team-centered work culture.
• Coordinate warehouse volunteer activities in partnership with the Volunteer Services team.
• Fill in or support as needed when driver or warehouse coverage is limited.

Fleet & Facility Oversight

• Maintain oversight of the organization’s box trucks and warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, coolers).
• Schedule inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
• Ensure facility is clean, organized, and safe inside and out (e.g., parking lots, waste stations).

Process Improvement, Reporting & Safety

• Collaborate with leadership to develop or refine SOPs and metrics for food distribution and warehouse workflows.
• Identify and address root causes of operational inefficiencies.
• Promote a safety-first culture through regular briefings and equipment training.
• Support long-range operational planning.

Required qualifications:

• High School diploma or the equivalent, bachelor’s degree preferred
• Preferred bilingual (English/Spanish)
• 5+ years of warehouse, logistics, or operations experience (with 2+ years in a supervisory role)
• Ability to use warehouse equipment such as scales, kiosk, electric pallet jack, forklift, etc.
• Ability to manage and organize multiple priorities.
• Ability to work well with a diverse group of people including staff, volunteers, donors, and clients.
• Ability to lift at least 75 pounds and work in physically demanding environments
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Computer literacy, specifically Microsoft suite: (Outlook, Word, Excel,SharePoint)
• ServSafe food handler’s certificate or willingness to obtain certification
• Preferred Nonprofit, food bank, or public health logistics experience

Status:

On-site Full time – 9:30 to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
