Job summary

Volunteer Behavioral Health is seeking a Crisis Triage Specialist for the Crisis Walk-In Center in Cookeville, TN. This part-time weekend role supports individuals in behavioral health emergencies with crisis intervention, assessment, and referral planning.

The ideal candidate has at least a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 1+ year of crisis experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency with EHR systems. Weekend nights Friday–Saturday 10pm–8am; driving is required for shifts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or related field.
• 1+ year experience in crisis intervention, behavioral health, or residential care preferred.
• Calm, confident demeanor in high-pressure situations.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Qualifacts).
• Valid driver’s license and flexibility with rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

• Conducting crisis assessments and de-escalation interventions.
• Performing discharge planning with CSU and Detox clients.
• Coordinating aftercare options and facility placement for clients.
• Responding to walk-ins and dispatch referrals with comprehensive evaluations.
• Coordinating referrals and managing long-term follow-up care.
• Triaging 988 Lifeline and internal crisis line calls.
• Facilitating client groups and specialized therapeutic activities.
• Supporting clients with daily living, medication, and safety checks.
• Maintaining accurate documentation in the EHR system.
• Collaborating with field staff, supervisors, and external providers.
• Assisting with facility operations, front desk duties, and emergency planning.
