Job summary

Viking Cruises is seeking an Assistant Waiter/ess for its Mississippi Food & Beverage team onboard. You will deliver meals, set up buffet areas, and maintain service standards under the Viking STAR framework.

Rotation involves 10–12 weeks on, 3–4 weeks off, with opportunities for events and guest interactions. You must have 2+ years in a fine dining environment, strong service knowledge, and excellent grooming.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience as a Restaurant attendant (or similar) at a 5-Star hospitality or fine dining environment.
  • Outstanding knowledge of service standards and food.
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance, and impeccable hygiene standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver meals and set up and maintain buffet areas according to STAR standards.
  • Provide support for food and beverage services in assigned areas.
  • Maintain clean and well-maintained equipment and work areas.
  • Serve beverages and assist with events while upholding safety procedures and health regulations.

Role Overview

As part of our Mississippi Food & Beverage team your job as an Assistant Waiter/ess is to deliver meals, set up and maintain all buffet areas in accordance with Viking’s STAR Service Standards

  • You will be reporting to the Assistant Restaurant Manager
  • You will be expected to work on a 10-12/3-4 rotation (10-12 weeks on board and 3-4 weeks off on vacation). Please note that rotation lenghts vary based on staffing and operational needs onboard Viking Mississippi Role Expectations
  • Provide support for food and beverage services in assigned areas
  • Set up and maintain self-service buffet areas, assist with food service and ensure mise-en-place for all areas prior to service
  • Serve beverages, maintain service quality standards, and prepare for special events
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are clean and well-maintained
  • Provide high level of comfort and sales-oriented service to guests
  • Follow and diligently implement Viking STAR standards, safety and standard operating procedures, while complying with Public Health Regulations.
  • Always uphold impeccable grooming standards by complying with Viking’s Image and Uniform Standards
  • Demonstrate outstanding flexibility: able to work at various times of the day, under pressure and always reflect a positive can-do attitude and the best image of Viking
  • You will be expected to consistently arrive on time and be prepared for work
  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned at leaders’ discretion based on operational needs
  • Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Restaurant attendant (or similar role) at a 5-Star hospitality or fine dining environment.
  • Outstanding knowledge of service standards and food.
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance, and impeccable hygiene standards
  • Excellent knowledge of all public health policies
  • Food handling certification required & alcohol certification Preferred Qualifications
  • Shipboard experience.

  • Must be 21+ years old, physically fit and in good health to meet the demands of an intense shipboard role; must be able to carry heavy items and stand, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time
