Job summary

Louisiana State University is seeking an individual to supervise an after-school program in Baton Rouge. You will assist students individually or in small groups, help with reading, language, spelling, and other activities to reinforce learning goals.

You will also monitor attendance and participate in dismissal procedures to ensure student safety. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree; a Teaching Certificate (K-5) or eligibility is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience as noted by LSU.
  • Teaching certificate or eligibility preferred.
  • Experience with K-5 students is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the classroom and supports students with lesson activities.
  • Monitors attendance and ensures safety during all program activities.
  • Performs duties to maintain a clean and safe environment in classrooms and common areas.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

Supervises the classroom; Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. reading stories, listening to students reading, language, spelling, facilitating activities, motor perception programs, colors, number charts, checks homework, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and reaching their academic goals and potential. Monitors student attendance of the program by collecting attendance rosters; Supervises student participation in structured and unstructured activities; Accepts responsibility for maintenance/necessary housekeeping duties of the classroom, common use areas and playground. Demonstrates enthusiasm, adaptability, dependability, and a strong work ethic; Treats all children with dignity and respect; Attends all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences; Supervises all activities to ensure safety at all times; Reports to the Co-Leaders any problem that may occur with the children; Performs additional program duties as assigned by the Co-Leaders according to the School's needs. Participates in dismissal procedures at the end of After Care, ensuring that each child leaves with the appropriate adult (either Lead Teacher or authorized adult); Greets parents and children with salutations; Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree; Teaching Certificate (particularly K-5) or eligibility for certification in Louisiana.
