JOB PURPOSE

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented insurance underwriter to assess and manage risks for a diverse portfolio across multiple industries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in casualty underwriting, analyzing risk exposures, and ensuring profitable growth while maintaining compliance with company guidelines and industry regulations. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical and negotiation skills to underwrite complex accounts effectively.

This is a hybrid position requiring two days per week in our NYC (Midtown) location.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Risk Assessment & Underwriting: Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal casualty business, including general liability, excess, employers’ liability, product liability, and other related risks.
• Portfolio Management: Manage a diverse portfolio, balancing risk exposure, profitability, and growth objectives.
• Policy Structuring & Pricing: Develop tailored insurance solutions by analyzing risk factors, loss trends, and policy terms to determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
• Market & Industry Research: Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks that impact casualty underwriting.
• Compliance & Guidelines: Ensure underwriting decisions align with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management frameworks.
• Collaboration: Work closely with actuarial, claims, and other departments to enhance underwriting strategies and improve decision-making.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Monitor portfolio performance, track key metrics, and provide insights to senior management.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of casualty lines required, knowledge of program placements is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of insurance principles, risk assessment methodologies, and policy wordings.
• Ability to analyze complex data, assess risk factors, and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Ability to handle a large and complex workload, which requires prioritization of tasks and great attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
• Proficiency in underwriting systems, data analytics, and Microsoft Office Suite.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, insurance, or a related field.
• Professional designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM, AU) are a plus.

• 10 + years’ experience in the insurance industry.
