Job description

Zurich is currently hiring a Technical Underwriter, Workers Compensation to join the North America Technical Underwriting team at Zurich North America. The Technical Underwriter will report to the VP, Workers Compensation Technical Director. This is an exciting time to join the North America Technical Underwriting team at Zurich!

This person will utilize their underwriting expertise to manage, design, and drive diverse multidimensional strategies for our Workers Compensation book of business. They will work closely with Global Colleagues and Business Unit Heads of Underwriting to deliver portfolio quality, performance measurements, technical underwriting strategies, product management, and pricing that support the achievement of financial goals for our market-facing units.

Key Accountabilities:

• Monitor underwriting strategy related to performance metrics, data, insights, syndicate findings, and adjust strategies as necessary.
• Act as primary liaison to assigned underwriting business units, providing transactional and strategic consultation in support of underwriting initiatives.
• Operate within Zurich Risk Policy, Global Underwriting Policy, and governance policies, translating them into guidelines and best practices.
• Lead initiatives impacting technical underwriting guidelines, controls, and procedures.
• Manage projects by aligning resources, setting directions, and ensuring successful outcomes.
• Handle complex queries within delegated authority.
• Assist in approving terms and conditions to enable profitable business writing.
• Oversee portfolio management, including profitability and growth analysis of specialty areas.
• Implement change and remedial actions based on analysis.
• Monitor and improve Technical Price accuracy.
• Lead underwriting operational transformation and support governance frameworks.
• Contribute to strategic underwriting goals and policies for assigned lines of business.
• Collaborate with peers and business units to execute strategies.
• Lead relevant projects, partnering with team members.
• Participate in Technical Underwriting Reviews, identify trends, and develop action plans.
• Address compliance and regulatory inquiries.
• Develop and deliver technical underwriting training as a subject matter expert.
• Identify emerging issues and opportunities for growth within lines of business.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of underwriting experience OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10+ years of underwriting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• CPCU certification
• Advanced knowledge of lines of business and regulatory environment
• Strong communication skills
• Expertise in Workers Compensation lines
• Experience in portfolio management, risk selection, pricing, and product development
• Ability to navigate ambiguity

At Zurich, compensation is influenced by various factors including location, role, skills, and experience. The proposed salary range for this position is $130,000 to $213,000, with a 20% short-term incentive bonus. For more details on our Total Rewards, click here.
