Job summary

Qualifications

• Active CPA required.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in Accounting Policy, Technical Accounting, Financial Reporting, or SEC Reporting.
• Strong understanding of internal controls and financial reporting requirements.
• Public accounting experience with a focus on technical accounting or consulting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate research, analysis, and documentation of technical accounting and financial reporting matters involving complex transactions, new business initiatives, acquisitions, and contractual arrangements.
• Develop, enhance, and maintain accounting policies in response to new transactions and changes in standards.
• Monitor developments from SEC and FASB and assess impact on the organization.
• Partner with Finance to identify accounting implications of new transactions and regulatory developments.
• Support the implementation of new accounting standards, including policies, processes, and controls.
• Serve as a point of contact for external auditors on technical accounting matters.
• Assist with the development and delivery of technical accounting training materials.
• Participate in design and execution of SOX and other controls.
• Provide guidance on new or modified transactions and processes.

Job Overview

The Assistant Vice President of Accounting Policy will partner with senior accounting leadership, finance and accounting teams, external reporting functions, and other internal stakeholders to support the accounting treatment of complex and non-routine transactions. This role will also help develop and maintain significant accounting policies and strengthen technical accounting capabilities to support accurate, high-quality external reporting as the organization grows in size, scope, and complexity.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical accounting background and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple concurrent priorities. Strong organizational, time management, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential, along with a high level of attention to detail.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate research, analysis, and documentation of technical accounting and financial reporting matters involving complex transactions, new business initiatives, acquisitions, and contractual arrangements.
• Develop, enhance, and maintain significant accounting policies in response to new transactions, changes in the business, and updates to accounting standards.
• Monitor developments from accounting and regulatory standard-setting organizations, including the SEC and FASB, and assess their potential impact on the organization.
• Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to identify accounting implications of new transactions, business activities, and regulatory developments.
• Support the implementation of new accounting standards, including related accounting policies, processes, and controls.
• Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors on technical accounting matters.
• Assist with the development and delivery of technical accounting training, presentations, and other educational materials.
• Participate in the design, implementation, and execution of SOX and other applicable regulatory controls.
• Provide technical accounting guidance to Finance and other business functions regarding new or modified transactions and processes.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to establish appropriate accounting policies and procedures for new or evolving business activities.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on technical accounting matters and communicate complex accounting conclusions clearly and effectively to a range of audiences.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant experience in Accounting Policy, Technical Accounting, Financial Reporting, or SEC Reporting.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, financial reporting requirements, and supporting documentation.
• Experience in public accounting, preferably with a technical accounting or consulting focus.
• Active CPA license required.
