Reporting directly to the President of WVUHS Medical Group (SMG),the Vice President is responsible to establish SMG as a highperforming medical group of more than 1500 physicians and APPs.This will be achieved by building a highly engaged physician andAPP workforce and creating the infrastructure that facilitates thedelivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-focused care.This role involves fostering a unified culture aligned with WVUMedicine’s strategic goals which includes but is not limited todeveloping a seamless onboarding process for new clinical partners,assuring resources and support to enhance physician and APPperformance, and using checkpoints and data to monitor progress andfacility new growth opportunities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Healthcare, Business Administration orManagement is required with a focus in Finance, Accounting, orrelated field.
- Ten years of experience in health care with a minimum of fiveyears of leadership experience in a health care setting isrequired.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in an integrated healthcare delivery system isrequired.
- Experience in a multi-specialty group practice plan of >500providers is required.
- Experience in an academic health system is preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build Connections: Serve as a strategic partner andthough leader to SMG President, UHA, corporate departments, localmarkets and other key senior leaders to engage providers indelivering high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-focusedcare.
- Infrastructure development: Partners with SMG Presidentand other key stakeholders to identify and develop infrastructureneeded to establish SMG as a high performing medical group of morethan 1500 physicians and APPs.
- Physician Compensation and Benefits: Supports thegovernance oversite and creation of market based, transparent,consistent and communicated physician and APP compensationplans.
- Onboarding Process: Develop a seamless onboardingprocess for new clinical partners.
- Support Physician Performance: Provide infrastructureand processes to enhance physician performance across medicalgroups.
- Monitor Progress: Use checkpoints and data to monitorprogress, establishing systems and processes to measureresults.
- Assess Operations: Identify opportunities forimprovement and integration in current operations, policies, andprocesses, create processes to engage regional administrators andother operators to create measurable improvements.
- Analyze Outcomes: Benchmark clinical and performanceoutcomes, ensuring accountability and consistency of care toachieve medical excellence, efficiency, and excellent patientexperiences.
- Quality and Safety: Work with leaders to refine andmonitor quality metrics throughout SMG and support the maturity ofinfrastructure for quality and safety in collaboration withorganizational partners.
- Evidence-Based Medicine: Work in collaboration withHealth System Integration to prioritize and implement initiativesto reduce practice and outcome variations, creating commonprocesses and a universal patient experience whereappropriate.
- Team Development and Leadership: Leads and mentors ahigh-performing team and fosters a culture of collaboration,accountability and continuous improvement.
- Physician Network Models: Assist in developing andimplementing strategies for physician network models thatstrengthen relationships between SMG and WVU departments, as wellas independent physicians.
- Evaluate and Integrate Practices: Foster a unifiedculture aligned with WVU Medicine’s strategic goals.
- Explore Expansion Opportunities: In collaboration withappropriate WVU Medicine departments, create market-based analysisand recommendations for growth and service expansion withinexisting practices, start-up and acquisition.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
- Understand SMG: Support and lead where appropriate, thecomprehensive understanding of SMG throughout WVU Medicine,including within UHA. Establish robust and positive relationshipsacross the organization and within the medical group based ontrust, transparency, collaboration, and mutual respect.
- Operational Framework: Lead in the formulation andimplementation of an operational framework that providesconsistent, effective, and efficient practice management, fiscaldiscipline, strategic recruitment of providers, and the developmentof clinical quality programs.
- Shared Service Infrastructure: Lead and/or support theformation of a highly effective shared services infrastructure thataddresses both the unique and common needs of SMG and UHA,including but not limited to physician recruitment, coding, revenuecycle, credentialing, etc.
- Physician Leadership Development: Partner with SMGPresident to implement a physician leadership development plan forkey physician leaders and more broadly for interested and motivatedphysicians.
- Governance Structure: Partner with the SMG President todevelop a governance structure for the medical group. Transparentlyand proactively share performance information and engage leaders inopportunities to drive the strategic positioning and performance ofSMG.
- Integration of New Practices: Assure effectiveintegration of new practices into SMG. Ensure operational andfinancial accountability of the physician practices; strengthen thefinancial performance and make sound, consistent business decisionswhile maintaining an empowered, entrepreneurial outlook.
- Culture of Accountability: Create a culture ofaccountability within SMG by developing business analytics toinclude metrics and dashboards related to access, quality, andservice.
- Support Clinical Agenda: Assess practice performance andwork with operations and finance partners to create or refinereporting tools that will track quality and financial metrics byphysician and location. Create specialized plans for providers togrow their practice and maximize productivity.
- Physician Compensation Plan: Partner with SMG Presidentto continue evaluation and refinement of the physician compensationplan across all practices and gain the confidence of physiciansthat the plan is fair and accurate.
