Job summary

American Real Estate Partners (AREP) is seeking a VP of Utilities & Power Development to strategize, plan, finance, and execute utility-scale power projects. You will deliver investor-grade financial models and negotiate PPAs with utilities and off-takers, collaborating with Acquisitions and Asset Management to secure long-term power supply.

You will lead private capital structuring, engage with lenders, regulators, and EPCs, and report to Principals and investors.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, Energy Economics, or related field; or significant relevant experience in lieu of degree.
12+ years in utility-scale power project development or energy infrastructure.
7 years leading PPA negotiations and multi-hundred-million-dollar project finance transactions.
Successful track record building and closing financial models for greenfield/brownfield power assets.
Deep expertise in U.S. utility regulatory frameworks, FERC tariffs, interconnection procedures.
Ability to raise private capital from infrastructure funds, PE, or strategic investors.
Exceptional negotiation and deal-closing skills.
Strategic thinker translating complex concepts into Board-level presentations.
High EI and ability to influence regulators.
Willingness to travel to project sites and investor meetings.

Responsibilities

Lead investor-grade business plans and multi-year financial models for power development, financing, construction, and operation.
Structure private investment for power assets; manage due diligence with investors and lenders.
Negotiate, draft, and execute long-term PPAs with utilities and off-takers.
Oversee interconnection processes, including queue management and system studies.
Build relationships with utility executives and regulators across agencies.
Coordinate with engineering, legal, finance, and external partners to deliver projects on time and budget.
Monitor energy market dynamics to inform site selection and investment strategy.
