Job summary

Los Angeles Opera seeks a Vice President of Human Resources and Labor Relations to lead the organization’s people strategy, culture, and labor relations. The role reports to the CEO and partners with the executive team and board to drive equitable, effective HR programs within a multi-union environment.

The position requires at least ten years of leadership in HR and labor relations, with strong negotiation and strategic advisory skills, and a deep commitment to the performing arts mission.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years of leadership experience in human resources and labor relations, in highly unionized environments.
• Experience in the performing arts sector preferred.
• Proven track record as chief spokesperson for collective bargaining and labor-management partnerships.
• Fluency with federal and state employment statutes and labor regulations.
• Ability to advise senior leadership and shape long-term institutional strategy.
• Strong negotiation, facilitation, and dispute resolution skills.
• Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in transformation efforts.

Responsibilities

• Lead HR, organizational culture, and labor relations strategy for LA Opera.
• Serve as chief advisor to the CEO and board on people strategy and workplace culture.
• Oversee labor relations across nine collective bargaining agreements.
• Direct compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, and workforce development.
• Ensure compliance with federal and California employment laws and regulations.
• Lead EDIB initiatives and internal communications to align with mission.
