Base Salary: $180k – $220k USD + meaningful equity & native-token upside

About the search

We are working with an early-stage, venture-backed startup that is building the open-source rails for co-owned AI agents. The 35-person team (fully distributed from day one) has raised > $20M from tier-one crypto investors and is led by proven cryptography researchers and web3 operators.

Our mandate: hire a hands-on VP of Engineering who can scale a product-driven organization at the intersection of decentralized systems and applied AI.

Why this role matters

The VP of Engineering owns engineering output for two core product lines:

• Decentralized agent framework (protocol & SDK)
• Composable AI services that run on top of that framework

You will translate a bold product vision into an execution roadmap, mentor world-class engineers, ship reliably in a highly distributed environment, and partner with the founding CTO on strategic technical decisions.

What you’ll do

• Drive architectural decisions and enforce best practices across Python & TypeScript services, infrastructure, and tooling.
• Build and nurture a high-bar engineering culture focused on autonomy, rapid iteration, and quality.
• Scale the engineering organization (hiring, performance management, career growth) from ~15 engineers to 30+ over the next 12–18 months.
• Own delivery cadence, technical roadmap, and cross-functional alignment with product, research, and community.
• Champion security, reliability, and protocol-level integrity in a web3 production environment.

What we’re looking for

• 7+ years of professional software-engineering experience and 2+ years leading engineering at a high-growth startup (Web2 or Web3).
• Proven record of scaling an engineering team from seed/Series A to at least ~25 engineers while maintaining velocity.
• Deep, hands-on expertise with Python and TypeScript; comfortable guiding teams that ship across the full stack, including infrastructure.
• Familiarity with decentralized architectures, blockchains, or cryptographic protocols (you don’t need to be a maxi, but genuine curiosity is essential).
• Ability to provide clear technical direction, set measurable goals, and foster a culture of ownership and accountability in a 100 % remote setting.
• High bias for action, product sense, and comfort operating in a fast-changing, ambiguity-rich environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Track record contributing to open-source projects or building developer-first platforms.
• Experience with token-incentivized or DAO-governed ecosystems.
• Prior work on AI/ML infrastructure or agent-based systems.

• Location: fully remote; core collaboration window is 9 a.m.–3 p.m. UTC (UTC -2 to UTC +4).
