Job summary

New York Life seeks a seasoned Head of Authentication Engineering, Identity & Access Management to lead strategy, architecture and reliability for enterprise authentication across workforce, applications, APIs, cloud, and hybrid environments.

This hands-on leader will manage a team of authentication engineers, define the target state, and drive secure, high-availability authentication programs including passkeys, MFA and adaptive verification while partnering with governance bodies to align with

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or equivalent practical experience.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in identity and access management, security engineering, or platform engineering with leadership.
• 5+ years of direct people management of engineers with hiring and career development responsibilities.
• Expert level knowledge of SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, federation, SSO, MFA, session security, and token lifecycle management.
• Experience with enterprise federation and access-management platforms such as PingFederate, PingAccess, PingOne or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Own the enterprise authentication strategy, target architecture, roadmap, and standards across workforce, application, API, cloud and hybrid environments.
• Lead design for authentication, federation, authorization, session security, and identity assurance at enterprise scale.
• Architect passwordless and phishing-resistant authentication (FIDO2, passkeys) and adaptive authentication models.
• Architect federation and SSO using SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect, with secure API authorization patterns.
• Represent IAM in governance forums and lead technical reviews of authentication flows and vendor solutions.
