Qualifications

• 7–10 years progressive accounting and finance experience.
• 3–5 years supervisory/management experience.
• Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership, Boards or committees.
• Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
• CPA/CMA/MBA or other relevant credential is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and enterprise accounting/financial reporting systems.

ProspectBlue is partnering with a well-established, mission-driven organization in the Richmond area to identify a strategic and collaborative Vice President of Finance to join its executive leadership team.

This newly elevated leadership role will provide strategic financial direction and oversee the organization’s accounting and finance functions, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, investments, risk management, compliance, and financial reporting.

The VP of Finance will work closely with the CEO, executive leadership team, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and external auditors to support the organization’s long-term financial strength, growth, and sustainability.

Strategic Financial Leadership:

• Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team on long-term strategic and financial planning.
• Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support organizational growth and sustainability.
• Support major capital projects, property initiatives, and endowment growth strategies.
• Serve as a key finance liaison with external partners and peer organizations to share best practices.

Financial Management & FP&A:

• Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Lead annual operating and capital budgeting in partnership with department leaders.
• Prepare multi-year financial forecasts and cash flow projections.
• Provide monthly budget-to-actual analysis and identify financial risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
• Monitor key financial performance indicators and provide recommendations for corrective action.
• Provide financial analysis and decision support related to investment, endowment, and reserve funds.
• Ensure strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes are maintained.

Board & Committee Support:

• Serve as staff liaison to the Finance and Investment Committees.
• Prepare and oversee timely monthly financial statements, cash flow reporting, and related financial analysis.
• Present financial information and insights to executive and volunteer leadership.
• Partner with Board and committee members to evaluate financial trends and investment performance.

Compliance & Risk Management:

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS requirements, organizational policies, and applicable nonprofit reporting requirements.
• Coordinate the annual audit, Form 990 preparation, and other regulatory filings.
• Oversee insurance programs and risk management activities.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

• Lead, coach, and develop the accounting and finance team.
• Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, accountability, and professional development goals.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, accountability, and strong internal customer service.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes, systems, reporting, and internal controls through technology and automation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• 3–5 years of supervisory or management experience.
