Job summary

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) seeks a Vice President, Equity & Climate to lead equity and climate initiatives, shape a long-term theory of change, and align programs with the Institute's strategic plan. Reporting to the COO, this senior role drives policy, partnerships, and measurement practices, building cross-functional buy-in and guiding enterprise priorities with the executive team.

Candidates should have 15+ years in equity or sustainability strategy and a proven track record

Qualifications

  • Proven senior leadership experience advancing equity and inclusion or climate and sustainability strategy at an enterprise level.
  • Demonstrated ability to think in systems and over long-time horizons, and to build buy-in for work whose payoff is not immediate.
  • Experience building or applying a theory of change or comparable framework to guide strategy.
  • Strong track record of cross-functional influence, with the ability to embed priorities into other teams' work.

Responsibilities

  • Set strategy for climate action and sustainability priorities.
  • Lead regenerative design strategy, embedding regenerative principles into member-facing tools and resources.
  • Lead development of climate tools and adoption strategies in partnership with practice resources team.
  • Build and sustain industry partnerships that advance climate adoption beyond AIA's membership.
  • Lead equity integration across the organization and guide career navigation and partnerships.
