Job description

Our client, a global provider of comprehensive financial solutions across payments, lending, and banking, is known for its client-focused and relationship-driven approach. They are currently seeking a seasoned leader to serve as Head of Enterprise Risk Management at the VP or Director level.

This critical role will guide the evolution and execution of the bank’s enterprise risk management (ERM) function. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), the position is responsible for building a scalable, forward-looking risk management strategy that aligns with the bank’s objectives and regulatory expectations.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in enterprise risk within the banking industry, a solid understanding of the regulatory environment, and the ability to cultivate a strong risk culture throughout the institution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Enterprise Risk Strategy & Oversight

  • Partner with the CRO to craft and deliver risk updates and agendas for executive and board-level risk committees. Present comprehensive dashboards with KRIs, KPIs, and emerging risks to support strategic decision-making.
  • Design and implement an enterprise-wide risk framework tailored to the bank’s goals and risk appetite.
  • Establish monitoring and reporting systems to track enterprise risk exposures and mitigation actions.
  • Conduct regular, organization-wide risk assessments to identify and prioritize potential threats and opportunities.
  • Lead the development of a scalable Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) program aligned with the bank’s evolving business model and complexity.

2. Risk Identification & Mitigation

  • Stay ahead of emerging risks, providing timely insights to senior management and governance bodies.
  • Collaborate across the business to implement mitigation strategies and enhance existing control structures.
  • Continuously refine KRIs and KPIs to ensure they accurately reflect risk exposure and help anticipate potential disruptions.

3. Policy Governance & Risk Appetite

  • Develop and maintain risk policies, procedures, and control standards consistent with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
  • Support the CRO in refining the bank’s Risk Appetite Statement and ensuring it stays relevant to the institution’s growth and risk posture.

4. Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Build strong working relationships with business leaders, control partners, and board members to promote transparency and accountability in risk management.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and subject matter expert on risk across the enterprise.
  • Lead and inspire a team of risk professionals, driving engagement, skill development, and career growth.
  • Implement performance feedback and career progression practices that support long-term succession planning.
  • Promote a diverse, inclusive, and performance-driven culture within the risk team.

6. Regulatory Awareness & Other Duties

  • Monitor changes in risk regulations, including guidance from the OCC and other supervisory bodies, ensuring full compliance.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed in support of the overall risk management strategy.
