Bio-Rad Laboratories is hiring to lead the creation of a group-level Software Engineering organization in Hercules, CA, supporting core diagnostics platforms and a multi-year product roadmap. You will drive AI strategy, build an AI/ML engineering capability, and ensure governance for regulated clinical software across global markets.

The role requires a Master’s degree (Pd.D./MBA preferred) and 10+ years in life sciences software, with 7+ years managing global teams and 5+ years in regulated

Bio-Rad's Clinical Diagnostics Group (CDG) is a leading global provider of tests for infectious and autoimmune disease screening, diabetes screening and monitoring, blood grouping, and laboratory quality control, serving a global customer base with over 3,000 reagents, devices, and instruments across roughly 300 diagnostic tests. This role leads the creation of a group-level Software Engineering organization, based in Hercules, CA, that supports CDG's core diagnostics platforms and executes a new product development roadmap, including next-generation digital transformation and Agentic AI/GenAI capabilities. The VP brings together existing teams under one global function, builds and grows the team with top talent, and leads execution of major new platform development for the Core Diagnostics business and the fast-growing Quality Systems Division.

How You'll Make an Impact:

• Define and execute an AI strategy (including GenAI/ML and Agentic AI) to accelerate software delivery, enhance product capabilities, and unlock value from connected-instrument data.
• Build a scalable AI/ML engineering capability (data, model development, Agentic AI workflows, MLOps, evaluation/monitoring) integrated with existing DevOps and quality processes.
• Lead engineering activities for execution of the multi-year product roadmap and life cycle management for Clinical Immunology, Immunohematology, Diabetes, Infectious Disease, and Quality Control solutions.
• Establish AI governance for regulated clinical software, including model risk management, data privacy, cybersecurity, validation, traceability, and documentation for global regulatory environments.
• Develop a vision for a product-centric global Software Engineering organization, aligned with business and product strategies, and create a multi-year plan to achieve that vision.

What You Bring:

• Education: Master's degree required in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or other relevant engineering/scientific discipline (equivalent experience considered). Pd.D. or MBA preferred in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline.
• Work Experience: 10+ years in design and development of complex integrated solutions comprising hardware, software, and assays in the life sciences industry (or equivalent experience in other industries), with demonstrated commercial success.
• 7+ years managing and growing successful global software development teams.
• 5+ years working in a regulated industry, ideally clinical diagnostics, with experience navigating FDA and other global regulatory environments.
• Track record structuring, growing, and optimizing globally distributed engineering teams, including attracting top-tier talent to accommodate rapid growth.
• Executive presence and experience working across organizational boundaries, forming alliances with senior leaders to build complex multidisciplinary products.

Location:

This position must be based in Hercules, CA and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.

Compensation:

The estimated base salary range for this position is $278,000 to $382,000 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
