Job summary

Common Cause seeks a Policy Director & Counsel, Voting & Fair Representation, to lead policy and legal strategies advancing voting rights, election administration, and fair representation. The role partners with diverse teams to translate research into actionable policy and to expand strategic impact across states and at the federal level.

The role is a full-time, remote position within the lower 48 states, with a preference for DC-based work two days per week.

Qualifications

• Experience leading state- or national public advocacy campaigns on voting and/or fair representation.
• Familiarity with legislative processes at state and federal levels, including drafting and lobbying.
• Experience shaping impact litigation strategies and collaborating with outside counsel.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of proactive policy and legal strategies across state, multi-state, and federal levels.
• Collaborate with senior policy staff, litigation teams, and state offices to align strategy and opportunities.
• Manage and mentor staff while supporting career progression and retention.
