Job summary

Common Cause in Washington, DC is seeking a Strategic Policy Director to lead state, multi-state, and federal policy strategies within the Voting & Fair Representation pillar. You will collaborate with senior policy and litigation teams to drive policy reforms and build coalitions with diverse stakeholders.

You will travel up to 6 times per year and manage the Policy Manager, Voting & Fair Representation, while shaping litigation support and communicating complex policy positions to internal

Qualifications

• Experience leading state-level or national public advocacy campaigns on voting/fair representation.
• Experience with legislative processes at state and federal levels, including policy development and advocacy.
• Knowledge of impact litigation strategies and collaboration with outside counsel.
• Ability to travel up to 6 times per year and operate from a Washington, DC office part-time.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of proactive policy and legal strategies on voting and fair representation.
• Collaborate with senior policy staff, litigation staff, and state teams to align strategy.
• Manage the Policy Manager, Voting & Fair Representation and support career development.
• Proactively build external relationships and represent Common Cause in coalitions.
• Shape policy briefs, reports, and materials for internal and external audiences.
• Support litigation strategy with legal analysis and document drafting.
• Travel as needed and coordinate across External Affairs, Campaigns, States, and Development teams.
