Job summary

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) seeks a Volunteer Coordinator to lead and manage a comprehensive volunteer services program in Birmingham, AL. You will recruit, train, schedule, coordinate, and engage volunteers to support all areas of the organization.

This role focuses on integrating volunteers into daily operations, planning and staffing events, overseeing shelter tours, and maintaining volunteer records. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in volunteer management, event coordination, or related field.
• Experience coordinating events and managing volunteer or workforce scheduling.
• Certification in Volunteer Management is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and continuously improve a best-practice volunteer program aligned with GBHS’ mission.
• Develop and maintain volunteer service descriptions and staffing plans.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate volunteer staffing for all GBHS events.
• Monitor program performance, budgets, and resource allocation.
