Job summary

Kitsap Humane Society seeks a Volunteer Coordinator to lead and support our growing volunteer program. You will recruit, train, schedule, and retain volunteers across departments, ensuring they are effectively utilized and supported.

This full-time, non-exempt role reports to the Volunteer Manager and requires strong communication, public speaking, and organizational skills, plus the ability to engage the community and manage weekend events.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated people skills and a love of working with people.
  • Very strong public speaking and teaching skills with large groups and one-on-one.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to stay calm, professional in stressful situations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to multitask in a hectic, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to give constructive feedback and adapt to priorities.
  • Team player with ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Comfortable hands-on work with volunteers and animals as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support volunteer recruitment through online marketing, social media, events and outreach.
  • Welcome and orient new volunteers, process applications and background checks.
  • Schedule volunteers into regular shifts and connect them with supervisors.
  • Assist with volunteer training and developing new training materials.
  • Support volunteer retention via clear expectations, communication and feedback.
  • Help expand community programs and maintain partnerships with agencies.
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation events and other duties as assigned.
