Job summary

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank seeks a Volunteer and Guest Experience Specialist for the Wayne County Campus to lead volunteer recruitment, scheduling and stewardship, while ensuring every visitor is greeted with warmth and professionalism.

Primary work location is Wayne County Campus with occasional support at other campuses; schedule is Monday–Friday 8:00am–4:00pm with occasional evenings/weekends. Salary ranges 49,920–54,080 based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Ability and willingness to travel primarily within the 8-county service region but also including occasional out-of-state conferences, seminars or workshops.
  • Ability to follow All American Institute of Baking, Feeding America, Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture, Occupational Safety Hazard Administration, and Foodbank (standard operating procedures and employee handbook) standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome all volunteers and guests with warmth and professionalism, collaborating with Foodbank staff to ensure neighbors, volunteers, vendors, network partners, outside groups and other visitors receive an exceptional first impression and gold-star experience.
  • Proactively identify volunteer needs and recruit, schedule and steward volunteers, with primary responsibility for meeting the ongoing needs of the Wayne County Campus. Ensure sufficient volunteer participation to support priority operational needs, including the production of approximately 1,700 CSFP boxer per month.
  • Develop and implement targeted recruitment strategies for additional Wayne County volunteer needs, including special events and campus-specific opportunities such as the Wayne County Pop-Up Pantry, pollinator garden and other emerging initiatives.
  • Cultivate and steward volunteer relationships to strengthen engagement, retention and participation in programs such as the Can-Do-Crew. Collaborate with Fund Development staff to identify volunteers who may have an interest in deeper engagement with the Foodbank, including philanthropic support.
  • Manage individual and group volunteer scheduling based on program needs, capacity and established parameters.
  • Manage volunteer applications, records and activity using the current volunteer management system (currently Volgistics), including reviewing and approving applications, maintaining accurate volunteer profiles, supporting check-in and check-out, and ensuring accurate tracking of volunteer activity.
  • Communicate special or high-profile volunteer and guest visits to appropriate Foodbank staff, including Executive Leadership when applicable, to ensure awareness and preparedness.
  • Collaborate regularly with Volunteer Center and Operations staff to maintain alignment around volunteer needs, available projects, scheduling, guest activity and other relevant Wayne County Campus operations.
  • Plan and help coordinate Wayne County Campus volunteer engagement and recognition activities, including ThanksGathering, Volunteer Appreciation Month, Hunger Action Month, theme nights, Volunteer(s) of the Year and other special initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the Warehouse Assistant Manager regarding the cleanliness, organization and upkeep of common areas, including the lobby, commons, collaboration space, kitchen and conference rooms.
  • Manage outside requests for Foodbank meeting space and tours, coordinating room setup, equipment and other relevant details. Engage additional Foodbank staff as needed to successfully fulfill requests.
  • Collaborate with Community Engagement staff to represent the Foodbank in Wayne County including community fairs, tabling events and other opportunities supporting volunteer recruitment and engagement. Deliver occasional Foodbank presentations to groups of varying sizes as needed.
  • Maintain an organized and professional front desk and lobby and ensure appropriate coverage during normal business hours. Coordinate and train Foodbank staff or volunteers providing front desk coverage as needed.
  • Manage incoming calls and general inquiries with courtesy, professionalism and accuracy, responding when appropriate and directing callers to the appropriate Foodbank department or staff member.
  • Oversee daily opening and closing of the Wayne Campus front entrance and follow established procedures to support a welcoming and secure environment.
  • Serve as a professional Foodbank representative and key on-site resource at the Wayne County Campus working collaboratively across departments and demonstrating sound judgment when responding to volunteer, guest and campus needs.
  • Collaborate with Major Gift Officers and Fund Development staff to identify and appropriately route corporate, individual donor and other philanthropic inquiries.
  • Collaborate with the Network Partner and Pantry Team to support partner order pickup at the Wayne County Campus providing a welcoming and efficient experience and ensuring questions, issues or concerns are promptly communicated and escalated to the appropriate team members for resolution.
  • Independently manage special projects and emerging priorities assigned and perform other duties as required.
