About Us

Black Mental Health Matters Inc (BMHM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to dismantling the stigma around mental health within Black communities globally. We focus on advocacy, education, culturally responsive mental health services, and empowering change through grassroots initiatives and global campaigns.

Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and driven Volunteer Fundraising Director to lead and implement innovative fundraising strategies that will support the mission and sustainability of BMHM. This is a volunteer leadership role for someone deeply committed to equity in mental health and skilled in developing donor networks, fundraising campaigns, and strategic partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement annual and long-term fundraising plans aligned with BMHM’s goals.
• Lead crowdfunding, donor engagement, sponsorship, and grant initiatives.
• Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to align fundraising messaging.
• Donor Relations
• Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and philanthropic organizations.
• Create and manage a donor recognition and retention program.
• Maintain an updated donor database and prepare periodic reports.
• Campaigns & Events
• Plan and coordinate virtual and in-person fundraising events and campaigns.
• Mobilize community support through social media, storytelling, and public engagement.
• Team Management
• Lead and support a small team of volunteer fundraisers and grant writers.
• Provide training, mentorship, and direction to ensure successful fundraising efforts.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor engagement, or development.
• Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and storytelling abilities.
• Passion for mental health and commitment to racial equity.
• Familiarity with fundraising tools and CRM platforms is an asset.
• Ability to work independently in a virtual environment and collaborate with diverse teams.

Time Commitment

• 6–10 hours per week (flexible schedule)
• Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
