Job summary

Georgia Aquarium is seeking a Volunteer Programs Specialist to coordinate the daily operations of the volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, recognition, and retention for general volunteers, teens, interns, and employee volunteers.

You will build trust-based relationships with a large volunteer population, manage multiple projects and ensure data integrity and compliance. Weekend work is part of the regular schedule.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; relevant volunteer admin or HR experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with tight timelines.
  • Proven ability to build trust-based relationships with volunteers and staff.
  • Works well independently and in teams; cross-stakeholder collaboration.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiar with Volgistics; Tessitura a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support to volunteers across all program areas.
  • Develop volunteer engagement, retention, and recognition strategies.
  • Manage reward processing and ordering for volunteers.
  • Serve as primary contact for applicants and volunteers; process paperwork and screenings.
  • Coordinate volunteer onboarding and orientation.
  • Support training through mentor/mentee programs.
  • Plan and execute engagement events and Volunteer Appreciation activities.
  • Maintain volunteer records and position descriptions; audit data.
  • Collaborate with Aquarium departments to support the Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with background checks and labor laws.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and update policies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as workload necessitates.
