Wheeler Mission Ministries is seeking a Volunteer Engagement Manager to lead volunteer involvement at our Indianapolis location. You will recruit, schedule, screen, and place volunteers, and build strong relationships with staff, volunteers, and donors to support ministry goals.

Job Title: Volunteer Engagement Manager

Position Summary:

The Volunteer Engagement Manager oversees volunteer involvement at their designated Wheeler Mission location by recruiting, scheduling, selecting, screening, building relationships, and communicating with volunteers, staff, and donors. This position collaborates with staff about volunteer needs, volunteer opportunities, and assists in volunteer development in order to ensure volunteers are properly equipped and integrated by their Volunteer Supervisor into positions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Key Area: Volunteer Engagement Management
  • Recruits, selects, and schedules individual and group volunteers for designated Wheeler Mission location.
  • Manages volunteer programs, including recruitment, selection, equipping, development, and leadership.
  • Oversees volunteer-driven Medical, Dental, & Legal Clinics.
  • Collaborates with Volunteer Ministry Team members to ensure proper communication and placement of volunteers.
  • Builds relationships with regular volunteers, aiming for retention and commitment to Wheeler Mission.
  • Greets and orients volunteers, especially at their first service date.
Key Area: Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborates with Wheeler Mission staff, Directors, Volunteer Supervisors, and Volunteer Engagement Managers at other Indianapolis locations to support volunteer development, placement, communication, and location needs.
  • Maintains open communication with location Volunteer Supervisors to determine needs, create position descriptions, integrate volunteers, and resolve/prevent issues.
  • Liaison for volunteer ministry and programming updates to the Director of Volunteers and Volunteer Ministry Team.
  • Represents Wheeler Mission to prospective community groups through speaking engagements, volunteer fairs, tours, and interviews.
  • Works on transitioning periodic volunteers into regular volunteers and financial donors.
  • Attends Marketing and Communication meetings and trainings as well as other necessary staff meetings & trainings for the designated Wheeler Mission location.
  • Assists in organizing Volunteer Appreciation and leads volunteers in other ministry special events.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position has no direct staff supervisory responsibilities but will oversee all volunteer activities at each location – including volunteers serving with other departments. This may include regularly connecting with site Volunteer Supervisors to ensure volunteers are being utilized, equipped, led, and developed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, People and/or Project Management or a combination of education, training, and/or experience
  • Exceptional communication skills.

Technical/Software Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

To perform the essential job functions of this position, a candidate must be capable of performing many physical functions including:

Work in an office setting but will have regular opportunities for tours, speaking engagements, off-site meetings, and special events.
The occasional need to set up and facilitate work projects, give tours using the stairwell, lifting boxes, tables, chairs, and other items up to 20 pounds.

Other Requirements for Employment

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position, generally with some flexibility working, 9AM to 5PM. Occasional evening or weekend overtime work is required as job duties demand. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and some holidays and weekends.
Must possess a valid state issued driver's license and have a driving record without major moving violations, including convictions for DUI, Reckless Driving, or Driving While Suspended. Must be insurable according to standards established by Wheeler Mission's risk management insurance agency.
