Title: Volunteer Engagement Coordinator Job Group Category: Non-Exempt Type: Full-time

Unit: Volunteer Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday Hours: 40/week

Direct Reports: N/A Reports to: Volunteer Manager

Position Summary

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for delivering a high-quality volunteer experience. This role serves as a frontline leader of volunteer operations, ensuring that each shift runs safely and effectively while creating a welcoming, mission-driven environment that encourages volunteers to stay connected to Feeding Northeast Florida.

This is a highly active, hands-on role that takes place in both a warehouse setting and out in the community. Coordinators will work indoors in a fast-paced warehouse environment and outdoors during mobile pantry distributions in varying weather conditions.

The Coordinator also supports broader community engagement efforts by identifying and sharing opportunities for deeper volunteer involvement, while maintaining strong operational standards related to safety, quality, and volunteer management.

Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Experience & Engagement
  • Lead and support volunteer shifts to ensure a positive, organized, and engaging experience
  • Build strong relationships with volunteers and foster an environment that encourages return participation
  • Communicate the organization’s mission and impact in a clear and engaging way
  • Help create a consistent and welcoming experience across all volunteer interactions
Leadership & Development
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and support to interns, volunteer captains, skilled volunteers, and teen ambassadors
  • Support onboarding and ongoing training to build confidence and skills
  • Offer feedback and guidance to support growth and development of volunteers and staff
  • Model strong leadership, communication, and facilitation practices
Engagement Tracking & Pipeline Awareness
  • Capture and share key observations related to volunteer engagement and participation
  • Identify volunteers who may be interested in deeper involvement and communicate those opportunities to the appropriate team
  • Support simple tracking efforts that help the organization better understand volunteer engagement trends
Operations, Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure volunteer activities are conducted safely and in alignment with organizational procedures and standards
  • Support adherence to food safety guidelines by overseeing proper sorting, handling, and quality review of donated products
  • Maintain awareness of safety risks within volunteer activities and take appropriate action to address concerns
  • Participate in and support organizational safety practices, including product quality standards and recall protocols as needed
Volunteer Coordination, Records & Inventory Support
  • Ensure volunteer check-in processes are followed and that volunteer participation is accurately captured
  • Support basic record keeping related to volunteer activity and shift participation
  • Assist in maintaining organization and accuracy of materials and supplies used during volunteer shifts
  • Support coordination of packing and sorting activities to align with program and distribution needs
Warehouse Operations & Environment
  • Support the preparation, organization, and reset of volunteer work areas before and after shifts
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized environment for volunteers and staff
  • Assist with warehouse and distribution activities, including mobile pantry support as needed
  • Utilize warehouse equipment such as electric pallet jacks and other tools as required (training provided)
Team & Program Support
  • Collaborate with team members to support volunteer programming and special events
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in volunteer processes and overall experience
  • Support organizational priorities as needed
Qualifications

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Active warehouse environment requiring standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds
  • Regular work outdoors during mobile pantry distributions in varying weather conditions
  • Frequent interaction with large groups of volunteers
  • Use of warehouse equipment, including electric pallet jacks (training provided)
  • Tuesday–Saturday schedule with occasional Sundays, Mondays, or evenings
