Job summary

The Ability Center is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to build relationships, engage volunteers, and create meaningful experiences across the Assistance Dogs Program. This role serves as the primary contact for volunteers and collaborates with program staff to recruit, onboard, develop, engage, recognize, and retain volunteers while providing the support they need to succeed.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required; bachelor’s preferred.
  • 3+ years of volunteer coordination or related experience.
  • Experience overseeing multi-role volunteer programs.
  • Experience with recruitment, onboarding, training, engagement, and retention.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project-management abilities.
  • Ability to travel and work occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; Salesforce or CRM experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate recruitment, screening, onboarding, orientation, training, placement, engagement, recognition, and retention for Assistance Dogs volunteers.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Assistance Dogs volunteers, providing ongoing communication and support.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight and support to volunteers with leadership collaboration.
  • Develop opportunities for continued volunteer education, mentoring, and leadership.
  • Coordinate orientations, meetings, trainings, and appreciation events.
  • Monitor engagement and satisfaction; identify opportunities to strengthen the volunteer experience.
  • Collaborate with department directors to support volunteer and ambassador initiatives.
  • Partner with Human Resources for organization-wide volunteer onboarding and orientation.
  • Support volunteer recruitment campaigns with Communications and Advancement.
  • Build relationships with community organizations, schools, and civic groups for volunteer pipelines.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records and track participation, hours, retention, and training.
  • Assist with volunteer communications, recognition initiatives, newsletters, and resources.
