Job summary

Gentiva Health Services, Inc. is seeking a compassionate Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, supervise, and support hospice volunteers. You will coordinate placements, ensure HIPAA/Medicare COP alignment, and advocate for volunteers within the interdisciplinary team.

The role is part-time (24–29 hours per week) with weekday focus and some evenings or Saturdays for orientation and events. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • CPR certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Deep understanding of hospice philosophy and patient/family needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all volunteer activity within the designated service area.
  • Maintain compliance with Medicare Hospice Conditions of Participation.
  • Assess patient and family needs for volunteer services and coordinate placements.
  • Recruit, train, and retain Administrative, Direct Care, Vigil, and Bereavement volunteers.
  • Facilitate volunteer orientation and annual training requirements.
  • Ensure completion of health screening requirements (e.g., TB tests).
  • Serve as liaison between volunteers and staff to promote communication.
  • Represent the volunteer program at interdisciplinary team meetings and in the community.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, including visit docs, evaluations, and monthly stats.
  • Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities.
  • Support volunteers with regular communication and mentoring.
  • Serve as backup volunteer when needed.
  • Review and update volunteer policies and procedures.

We are seeking a compassionate and organized Volunteer Coordinator to join our hospice care team. In this vital role, you will recruit, train, supervise, and support volunteers who provide essential services to patients and families. As a key member of the interdisciplinary team, you will be the voice and advocate for volunteers while ensuring the program aligns with federal hospice regulations and community needs.

This is a part-time, 24-29/hour week position mainly working weekdays with some flexibility needed to work into the early evenings or Saturday if needed for orientation and/or recruiting/community events.

Key Responsibilities

About You
Qualifications – What You'll Bring:

  • Deep understanding of hospice philosophy and the emotional needs of terminally ill patients and their families
  • Ability to build rapport with volunteers, staff, and community partners
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in public speaking and group facilitation
  • Flexible, empathetic, and capable of working independently and collaboratively
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and other basic office equipment
Preferred Experience (Not Required):
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or at least four years of related experience
  • Previous experience in healthcare, hospice, or volunteer administration
