Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Coach to support the head coach in developing student athletes and delivering a safe, engaging athletic program. The role emphasizes teaching fundamental skills, promoting sportsmanship, and helping athletes perform with confidence in contests.

Responsibilities include supervising practices, managing equipment and records, following WIAA and district policies, and attending athletic meetings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required plus coaching experience.
• First Aid, CPR and AED training required.
• Knowledge of district, WIAA policies and coaching standards essential.

Responsibilities

• Supervises student athletes to promote learning through athletic participation.
• Assists head coach in preparing athletes physically and mentally for contests; enforces safety and discipline.
• Oversees practice sessions; teaches fundamental skills; promotes sportsmanship; adheres to Coaches’ Handbook.
• Follows district procedures for handling injuries.
• Oversees equipment issuance, keeps records, ensures return and maintenance; conducts weekly safety checks.
• Attends district and building athletic meetings; stays current with rules; performs related duties as assigned.
