The Vocational Trainee role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to support/promote the student's career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The vocational trainee experience enables students to participate in professional activities for Volvo Group by working on important and innovative projects. Vocational Trainee positions are structured learning experiences where students and our full-time professionals work together on projects within their selected organization. This allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo Construction Equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and modify tools, fixtures, carts, racks, workstations, and other shop‑floor equipment.
  • Help physically implement improvement ideas generated by production employees.
  • Support Kaizen and continuous improvement activities throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Assist with workstation improvements involving ergonomics, safety, organization, quality, and efficiency.
  • Measure, cut, drill, assemble, fasten, and modify materials using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Help create prototypes and test new ideas before final implementation.
  • Work directly with operators and other team members to understand problems and develop practical solutions.
  • Support 5S and workplace organization projects.
  • Support Logistics improvements as needed
  • Follow all plant safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Who are you?

Skills / Experience Required

  • Current high school student enrolled in a vocational/co‑op program.
  • Interest in manufacturing, fabrication, mechanics, welding, machining, maintenance, or engineering technology.
  • Enjoys building things and working with their hands.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn how to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Dependable, motivated, and able to work well with others.
  • Ability to listen to an idea and help turn it into a practical solution.
