Job summary

CoreCivic is seeking a Vocational Instructor to deliver instructional services in an institutional, secure setting. The role focuses on vocational trades such as business, computers/technology, carpentry, plumbing, and related fields to help inmates learn and acquire skills.

The instructor will prepare course objectives, plan individualized study programs, and use various teaching aids while evaluating student progress and maintaining required credentials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Three years of full-time wage-earning experience in the subject vocational trade or career readiness; or three years experience as a certified instructor in the trade.
• Must possess or be eligible for required credentials by contract or state.
• Continued employment contingent on agency credentials.
• Must be able to give clear instructions in the trade.
• Experience in Microsoft Office applications is required.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Computers or Horticulture instructors may substitute a Bachelor's degree in the field.

Responsibilities

• Prepare course objectives following curriculum standards and contract requirements.
• Plan and document a program of study that meets students' needs and abilities.
• Provide instruction using handouts, texts, audiovisual aids and other materials; evaluate student performance and issue progress reports.
