Job summary

KODIAK Construction Recruiting & Staffing is seeking an on-site piping inspector to verify fabrication quality against drawings, maps and specs. You will visually inspect welds, materials, and fit-up, and ensure proper identification of welds and heat numbers while documenting any nonconformances.

You will coordinate with quality, fabrication, supervision, and client reps, prepare clear inspection reports, and uphold safety rules and PPE requirements in an active piping environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Visually inspect piping welds, base materials, fit-up, surface condition, joint preparation, and completed weld profiles.
• Check work against approved isometrics, fabrication drawings, weld maps, specifications, inspection and test plans, and project acceptance criteria.
• Verify material and weld identification, including heat or lot numbers, weld numbers, and welder IDs, where assigned.
• Use measuring tools and visual inspection aids, and confirm calibration status when required by procedure.
• Record and communicate rejectable conditions and documentation gaps; support nonconformance reporting and reinspection after corrective work.
• Coordinate hold and witness points with quality, fabrication, supervision, and client representatives.
• Complete clear inspection reports and maintain traceable project records.
• Follow site safety rules, permit and PPE requirements, housekeeping practices, and stop-work expectations.

Job description

Help ensure piping fabrication and construction work meets approved drawings, project specifications, applicable codes, and inspection requirements. You’ll examine fit-up, materials, and completed welds, document your findings, and flag issues for correction. This is an inspection role; welding is not part of the job.

• Working knowledge of piping fabrication or construction, weld terminology, visual examination methods, and common weld discontinuities.
• Ability to write objective inspection records and communicate findings professionally.
• Ability to meet project access, orientation, and safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Magnetic Particle Testing Level II (MT Level II).
• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant inspection training and field experience may be considered.

Qualification note:

Candidates without ACCP VT Level II or AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification must pass the company or project internal qualification process before inspecting independently. That process follows the applicable written practice consistent with SNT-TC-1A.

Work takes place in an active piping fabrication or construction environment. The role may involve extended walking and standing, climbing stairs or access platforms, bending, reaching, and working near industrial equipment. Required PPE must be worn, and inspectors must be able to safely access inspection locations.
