Job summary

Arcosa Wind Towers, Inc. seeks an experienced trainer to educate VT inspectors and weld inspectors, focusing on weld discontinuities, acceptance criteria, and documentation.

You will mentor candidates, administer exams, and track NDT hours for certification, while collaborating with QA, Welding Engineering, and production teams. Occasional travel is required to support audits and training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum four years of experience as a weld inspector, welding technician, or related welding role.
• Strong knowledge of welding processes, weld discontinuities, fabrication practices, and weld inspection techniques.
• Ability to teach and communicate technical concepts in classroom and hands‑on settings.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and record‑keeping skills.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and quality procedures.
• Ability to evaluate inspector competency and provide constructive feedback.
• Ability to work with production, engineers, weld technicians, inspectors, and management.

Responsibilities

• Teach VT inspectors and weld inspection personnel in classroom and hands‑on settings.
• Deliver hands‑on training on weld discontinuities, acceptance criteria, inspection techniques and documentation.
• Mentor inspector candidates to improve knowledge and proficiency.
• Administer visual acuity exams per certification requirements.
• Administer VT Level II examinations.
• Track NDT experience hours for certification and recertification.
• Perform overchecks and audits of wind tower sections for inspection effectiveness.
• Conduct quarterly technical reviews and inspector performance evaluations.
• Identify trends and opportunities to improve welding quality and inspection.
• Collaborate with Welding Engineering, QA, Manufacturing Leadership, and NDE to improve processes.
• Provide technical guidance on weld quality and inspection criteria.
• Perform visual weld inspections to support production needs.
• Assist with special projects, audits, and customer visits as required.
• Travel periodically to support training, audits, or qualification activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct classroom and practical training for Visual Testing (VT) inspectors and weld inspection personnel.
• Deliver hands‑on training focused on weld discontinuity recognition, weld acceptance criteria, inspection techniques, and inspection documentation.
• Mentor and coach inspector candidates to improve technical knowledge and inspection proficiency.
• Administer visual acuity examinations in accordance with applicable certification requirements.
• Administer General, Specific, and Practical examinations for VT Level II candidates.
• Track, verify, and maintain NDT experience hours required for initial certification and recertification of inspection personnel.
• Conduct overchecks and audits of previously accepted wind tower sections to verify inspection effectiveness and compliance.
• Perform quarterly technical reviews and inspector performance evaluations as required.
• Identify trends, recurring defects, and opportunities for improvement in inspection and welding processes.
• Collaborate with Welding Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Leadership, and NDE personnel to improve welding quality and inspection effectiveness.
• Provide technical guidance and support regarding weld quality requirements, inspection methods, and acceptance criteria.
• Perform visual weld inspections and related quality activities on an as‑needed basis to support production requirements.
• Assist with special projects, audits, customer visits, and quality investigations as required.
• Travel periodic to support training, audits, qualification activities, or other business needs.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum four years of experience as a weld inspector, welding technician, or related welding role.
• Strong working knowledge of welding processes, weld discontinuities, fabrication practices, and weld inspection techniques.
• Ability to effectively teach and communicate technical concepts in both classroom and hands‑on settings.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and record‑keeping skills.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and quality procedures.
• Ability to evaluate inspector competency and provide constructive technical feedback.
• Ability to work effectively with production personnel, engineers, weld technicians, inspectors, and management.

Preferred

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Candidates without a current CWI certification must possess the qualifications and commitment necessary to obtain CWI certification or equivalent within one year of hire.
• Experience working within manufacturing, heavy fabrication, wind tower, structural steel, or pressure vessel environments.
• Familiarity with NDT certification requirements and industry standards.
