Job summary

Hobson & Motzer, now part of Vantedge Medical, seeks a Visual Grinding Operator to join our on-site Durham, CT team. This role focuses on operating a visual grinder to meet close tolerances and finishes, using appropriate grinding wheels for various materials.

The successful candidate will perform setups with rotary fixtures and sine plates, conduct daily checks, maintain records, and ensure timely deliveries while following shop standards and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • High School or Technical School Diploma preferred.
  • One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blue prints, part drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to do basic math in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Availability to work Saturday mornings when required.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively operate visual grinder machines to achieve required tolerances and finishes through the proper selection and use of grinding wheels for different materials.
  • Effectively perform set-ups involving various auxiliary equipment (i.e., Rotary Fixture, Sine Plate, Toolmaker's Vice, etc.).
  • Performs daily machine checks and minor maintenance.
  • Properly operates equipment to produce quality production parts.
  • Maintains thorough & accurate records; updates changes in accordance with shop standards.
  • Ensures on time deliveries within specified design parameters and tooling budgets.
  • Efficiently analyzes and improves machining methods so as to cut costs and improve quality.
  • Maintain an organized, clean and safe work environment by following 6S standards.
  • Properly follow all H&M procedures and policies.
  • Use correct P.P.E. per JHAs and Job Description. Must wear protective footwear that complies with ASTM F2413 & F2412.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement activities, including the Idea System.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

About this Opportunity:
