Job description

The Senior Stability program at Affordable Living for the Aging (ALA) is a capacity-building pilot designed to help low-income older adults stabilize income, increase independence, and achieve housing and health stability. The program strengthens organizational systems that connect seniors to public benefits, digital literacy supports, application support, and age-friendly employment. The program focuses on building sustainable infrastructure rather than direct service delivery. Systems developed through the pilot will support benefits navigation for income stabilization, including screening and referral pathways for programs such as Social Security Income (SSI), CalFresh, Medicare Savings Programs, and utility and transportation assistance. The program also establishes age-friendly workforce and volunteer pathways in partnership with Goodwill and community stakeholders, creating flexible, accessible opportunities suited to older adults. In addition, the program will provide digital support for benefits enrollment, employment readiness, and independent living. By developing referral tools and training guides, the program reduces barriers seniors face when navigating online systems and applications. A core component of the program is partnership development and sustainability. The program formalizes partnerships with benefits providers, workforce organizations, and community stakeholders while building data tracking and reporting tools to measure outcomes related to income stabilization, benefits access, and employment. Grant and contract opportunities aligned with the pilot are researched and documented to support long-term continuation. Together, these systems strengthen ALA’s capacity to address poverty among older adults by integrating income stability, workforce pathways, and digital access into ongoing housing and health equity efforts.

Member Duties

The AmeriCorps VISTA member will develop and pilot the Senior Stability Pilot by designing systems that connect older adults to public benefits, digital support, and age-friendly workforce pathways. The member will develop intake tools, referral workflows, and centralized resource guides to support benefits navigation and income stabilization. The member will document age-friendly employment and volunteer opportunities in partnership with Goodwill. The member will also inventory digital literacy resources and create training and referral tools that support benefits enrollment, employment readiness, and independent living. In addition, the member will design directory, tracking, and reporting tools for the pilot and research funding opportunities. This is a capacity-building role focused on system design and sustainability and does not involve direct service delivery.
