Museum Village is seeking a Visitor Experience & Communications Manager to lead visitor experiences, outreach, and community relations in the Hudson Valley. You will oversee memberships, retail operations, and site rentals while guiding communications with visitors, vendors, and donors.

The role requires strong customer service, POS/database skills, and the ability to work independently. On-site position with evening/weekend availability and social media responsibilities are expected.

Qualifications

  • Strong POS and database management skills are required.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Comfort speaking with diverse groups and communities.
  • Ability to enforce museum policies and procedures with visitors.
  • Leadership experience in operations is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage memberships and donor outreach.
  • Develop and implement operational changes based on current programs, memberships, tours, and events.
  • Lead initial communications with visitors, vendors, volunteers, donors, and the community.
  • Oversee incoming communications and respond appropriately.
  • Direct retail operations and sales processes.
  • Manage the museum’s social media presence.
  • Market and boost event bookings and site rentals.
  • Assist with facility maintenance and report issues.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Create processes and procedures for effective site management.
  • Handle procurement and stocking of site supplies.

Job description

Since 1950 Museum Village has provided valuable educational opportunities to schools and families of the Hudson Valley. We are a living history museum focused on life in America from the 1870’s to the 1910’s.

The Visitor Experience & Communications Manager at Museum Village is responsible for a successful visitor experience, outreach and relationship building within the community, and boosting site-rentals and events for the museum. The VECM will ensure all visitors, whether onsite, online, or beyond our “four walls” receive the experience that supports the Museum Village brand. They must possess stellar communication skills and be able to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage memberships, donor outreach.
  • Manage and develop operational changes based on up to date knowledge of museum programming, membership information, tours, events, etc.
  • Manages and models first communication with museum visitors, vendors, volunteers, donors, and community.
  • Manage and coordinate incoming communications.
  • Manage retail operations.
  • Manage the Museum’s social media.
  • Manage, market and boost museum event and site rentals.
  • Assist in facility maintenance as needed and report larger issues.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.
  • Develop processes and procedures for effective site management.
  • Manages ordering, product procurement, and site supplies.
Essential Requirements:
  • Experience and excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong computer, POS and database management skills.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be comfortable speaking with diverse groups.
  • Must be able to enforce Museum policies and procedures with visitors and interpretation staff.
  • Operations leadership experience.
Desired Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years in customer service required; prior experience in Museums a plus.
  • Ability to work on site, nights, weekends, holidays.
  • Experience with Social Media, Marketing, Graphic Design Experience with event marketing, booking, planning a plus.
