Qualifications

• Ph.D. from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or Biochemistry required for Assistant Professor.
• Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or Biochemistry required for Lecturer.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant teaching and/or research experience in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a combination thereof.
• Experience teaching General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry and/or Physical Chemistry, with emphasis on Organic and Physical chemistry.
• Proficiency in using technology to support both in-class and online learning.

Responsibilities

• Teach the required workload credits per semester in the undergraduate programs.
• Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and scholarship.
• Advise students and participate in university and area committees.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry practices and technology; establish professional memberships.

Job Description

I. Position Information

Title: Visiting Professor of Chemistry

II. Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences & Mathematics

III. Position Summary

The responsibilities of this position comprise teaching undergraduate level courses and laboratories in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Programs. As a faculty member, the Lecturer/Professor is expected to participate actively in curriculum development and assessment, advise students, serve on university and area committees, perform all duties professionally and ethically, and support the policies and mission of the University. In addition, the Lecturer/Professor is required to contribute and produce scholarship and continue professional development as a faculty member.

IV. Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach the required work load credits per semester in the undergraduate programs.
• Actively participate in School and University related activities and committees, the accreditation process, curriculum development and assessment, and scholarship, grant writing, research, publishing and participation in community service.
• Advise students.
• Develop a professional development plan and demonstrate a trajectory that promotes scholarship, community service and life‑long learning.
• Remain current in the latest industry practices, standards, equipment, research, and technology.
• Establish/maintain membership in professional societies and organizations.

VI. Qualifications

Minimum Education

• Assistant Professor: A Ph.D. from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or Biochemistry is required.
• Lecturer: A Masters Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or Biochemistry

Experience And Skills

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant teaching and/or research experience in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a combination thereof.
• Experience teaching General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry and/or Physical Chemistry or some subset thereof. Particular weight will be given to the ability to teach Organic and Physical chemistry.
• Proficient in the use of technology to support both in-class and online learning environments.
• Have the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
• Chemistry or biochemistry and scientific skills relevant to their area of expertise.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications or related software, learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), and other programs related to teaching, learning, advising, and assessment (e.g. Self Service, Stellic, Weave).
• Ability to prioritize work and resources.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality.
• High integrity and ethical standards.

VII. Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

VIII. Other Requirements

• This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
• Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
