Job Description:
The Visiting Lecturer creates, manages and participates in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potentialand achieve their learning objectives. The Visiting Lecturer participates collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college and of the collective and individual interests of its staff and student body. The contracted faculty member supports and seeks always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the College embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision adopted by the board of education.
Instruction & Student Learning
- Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primaryresponsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum inconjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigorof programs and the quality of instruction.
- Considers individual differences of students to design andsupport a range of appropriate learning activities. Participates inthe identification of students with academic or other needs andresponds by utilizing an appropriate resource.
- Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature andobjectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly tostudents the expectations concerning the use of suchtechnology.
- Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with theFaculty Handbook and departmental policies.
- Maintains attendance records, determines and submits gradestimely, and in accordance with established policies and proceduresof the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as otherrelevant information to students throughout the semester.
- Create and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporatedepartmental, college, cross-college, and instructorrequirements.
- Participates in the selection of appropriate materials tosupport course curriculum in accordance with the College’sguidelines. Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with theprescribed meeting schedule.
- Employs and assists in the design and development ofappropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performancein achieving course goals and objectives. Be a facilitator oflearning in a digital environment.
Student Engagement & Advisement
- Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages activeand collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge,student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.
- Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmentaland policies of the College. Uses technology to assist incommunication with students.
- Encourages a sense of community among students for learningboth inside and outside the classroom.
- Refers students to appropriate student and academic supportservices available at the College or in the community.
Continuous Improvement
- Promotes continual improvement as part of the cycle of teachingand learning by: assisting, as appropriate, in the maintenance ofinstructional materials and laboratory facilities; contributing, asappropriate, to the development, selection, and improvement ofinstructional materials, laboratories, and other instructionalfacilities; providing guidance in the development, maintenance, anddesign of course description, course outlines, and syllabi;recommending modifications to the curriculum and participating inthe design of new curricula.
- Completes all mandatory performance evaluation measures withinspecified time limits and participates in all required training by the College. Shares best practices with colleagues in formal orinformal settings.
- Participates in instructional, departmental, or institutionalresearch to improve educational effectiveness. Evaluates teachingand assessment practices to continue improving them. Providesfeedback, as appropriate, regarding the general operations of thedepartment, division and the College.
- Participates, as appropriate, in the interviewing, selection,and orientation processes of department faculty and staff. Providesadvice and/or assistance to faculty within the department,division, or College.
- Attends faculty meetings as called by the President, SeniorVice President of Academic Affairs, Dean or Department Chairperson;and participates, as appropriate, on departmental and divisionalcommittees.
Professional Development
- Maintains a personal portfolio for tenure and promotion reviewand other career related needs. Employs student, administrative andself-appraisals to establish goals and objectives for professionaldevelopment, and participates in professional developmentactivities.
- Contributes, as appropriate, to the planning, evaluation,and/or presentation of college professional developmentprograms.
- Maintains required professional credentials, licensing, andcontinuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Master’s degree in Economics.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable abilityto gain access to work site(s).

9-Month Visiting Lecturers Salary*: $40,320.00 - $46,080.00
Autumn/Spring: $20,160 (21 hrs.) - $23,040 (24 hrs.)
Optional Summer Semester (15-21contact hours): $14,400.00 -$20,160.00

About the ACF
The Annually Contracted Faculty (ACF) position at Columbus State is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. ACFs are typically placed on a one-year, two-semester contract that is renewable each year. CCP-ACFs (College Credit Plus) are typically placed on a two-year contract.
