Job Description

Riverside City College is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Ethnic Studies for one year. The successful candidate will teach Ethnic Studies courses and contribute to curriculum development and program planning in collaboration with multidisciplinary faculty. Teaching assignments may include early morning, day, evening, online, hybrid, and/or off-campus classes.

The ideal candidate will support RCC’s commitment to educating a racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse student population and to social and racial justice through decolonial and anti-racist pedagogies. Education

Master's in Ethnic Studies or a related field (as listed below).
OR a master’s in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian American Studies, or African American Studies, or the equivalent.
All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions.

Experience

Recent evidence of working with racially/ethnically minoritized students in the classroom and understanding how historical patterns shape their participation and outcomes in higher education.
Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to support diverse groups of minoritized students.
Demonstrated teaching excellence in Ethnic Studies with the ability to develop and teach courses in African American/Black Studies, Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, Native American and Indigenous Studies, Comparative Ethnic Studies, critical race theory, decolonization, anti-racism, intersectionality, and related topics.
Use of Ethnic Studies inquiry methods, including intersectionality, decolonizing methodology, transdisciplinary approaches, and social justice practices.
Experience or interest in building Ethnic Studies curriculum and programming.
Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines to design, revise, and implement curriculum and advance Ethnic Studies at the college and district level.
Commitment to educating a diverse student population with broad Ethnic Studies offerings.
Commitment to maintaining professional ethics and a high standard of professional conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrate commitment to student equity and participate in programmatic efforts to support students in low-performing groups.
Teach courses in the relevant disciplines and according to the course rotation and workload guidelines, including duties such as class preparation, evaluations, and office hours.
Teach assigned courses in accordance with the course outline of record.
Instruct and support students with diverse backgrounds using culturally relevant pedagogy and evidence-based teaching practices.
Maintain scheduled office hours and participate in department/division meetings and committees.
Perform related duties and comply with administrative responsibilities and college policies.
Teaching assignments may include early morning, day, evening, online, hybrid, and/or off-campus classes.
Maintain effective oral and written communication with students.
Commit to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
Provide Ethnic Studies discipline expertise to collaboratively develop curriculum and lead program development with colleagues.
Complete 24 hours of flex credit through professional development activities.
Participate in discipline/department decision-making, curriculum development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, and FERPA compliance.
Maintain professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the position.
Hours may include evenings, weekends, and off-site locations.

Conditions of Employment

This is a long-term temporary, non-tenure track position for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Previous long-term temporary service within three years may affect eligibility.
Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time teaching experience (Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6).
Medical and dental benefits are provided for employee and dependents.
A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
Orientation to the college and adherence to Improvement of Instruction policies are required.
Maintain broad knowledge of the discipline and related pedagogy for learning outcomes.
Fulfill other employment conditions expected of full-time faculty, including participation in college activities and committee work.

Note: This position terminates at the end of the 2026-2027 academic year with no guaranteed funding beyond that year. It is not an internal promotion or guarantee of future full-time employment.
