Job summary

Mercy Housing seeks a Vice President of Communications to lead the national communications strategy and team, shaping brand narrative and aligning resources across the enterprise. You will advance visibility, influence philanthropic investments, and build trust with regional partners while guiding executive communications and high-impact initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 12 years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise communications leadership, including internal and external communications, media relations, and brand stewardship.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience managing and developing professional staff.
  • Experience working in a national nonprofit, affordable housing, or mission-driven organization with regional operations.
  • Experience leading communications in complex, highly matrixed environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communications intake, planning and prioritization processes to align resources with the organization's highest-priority initiatives.
  • Translate enterprise communications strategies into annual and quarterly plans for alignment and measurable outcomes.
  • Establish editorial calendars and reporting mechanisms to improve visibility and coordination.
  • Partner with executive leaders to shape communications strategies that advance organizational priorities.
  • Lead internal communications strategy and work with partners to support employee communications and change management.
  • Build communications capability by providing counsel, tools, standards, and coaching to leaders.
  • Lead communications staff responsible for media relations, internal communications and related functions.
  • Lead earned media and storytelling strategies to strengthen reputation and influence supporting fundraising and advocacy.
